If we order the annual pass on-line at the DVC web-site, is it activated the day you buy or not until your next vacation.

I assume we will get vouchers to activate when we arrive, but just wanted to check. Our trip is several months away, but wanted to order our passes now.

Thanks for your help...

Your annual pass begins after you activate your voucher. :flower:

Thank you... so if we buy today, it won't be activated until the first time we go to the parks?

When we get our AP vouchers, can we then order the Disney Dining Experience Cards. Should we wait until closer to our trip to order these cards.

Correct about your AP not being activated until you do so at one of the parks. As for the DDE cards, as I understand it they are active from (or close to) purchase. Some have reported getting an expiration date 13 months away instead of 12 but still I'd think you'd want to wait until closer to the trip. The cards take several weeks (according to reports) to get to you, but you can get a letter sent over to guest relations (not sure if any guest relations or if I read at Epcot only) and you can go pick it up when you activate your AP. This way you'd be getting the most time out of the DDE possible.

Caveat - you can only order the DDE via phone and from Mon - Fri only so don't wait for a weekend as you are traveling down.

If I am wrong on this someone please correct me as it is also how I intend on doing it after reading many posts on the subject.
Thanks.

Thanks MLK-RI - I thought that was the case with the DDE card. Our trip is in late February. I will order the AP soon and wait until January to order the DDE card...

Thanks again!!

Another question. Does your Annual Pass have to be activated to make a cash reservation at a Disney hotel to get the discount?

No, as long as it IS activated at the time you check in.

We checked into the AKL on an AP discounted rate with only a voucher. My AP had not been activated yet and they had no problem with it.

You pick up your DDE letter at the guest relations at the front of Epcot only.. no other park .. and not at the International Gateway.

hope this helps .. :)

Thinking of buying in...
what is the discount on the ap and are there other discounted tix, where would I find all the benefits of ownership (have requested the dvd already)

The benefits and perks are subject to change at any time - they are not guaranteed by contract. It's not a good idea to base any part of your purchase decision on them.

The DVC member discount on an adult AP is $100 and for an adult PAP, it's $125. You can get a very good idea of the other perks from this website:

2005 WDW discounts

It will also give you discounts for AP passholders and DDE card holders.

CoolDisneyCat - thank you for confirming the Epcot front entrance for picking up the DDE letter. I figure on ordering DDE the week before arrival, arriving on a Sunday and going to Epcot to activate the AP and pick up the DDE letter. Trying to maximize the time to work in another trip within the year to use both again.

We are getting ready to buy our first AP's and I know that we get the $100/$75 discount.

How does the renewal of the AP's work? Does anyone know what the cost is of AP's w/ the DVC discount?

Thanks,
Missy

Just to clear a few things up:

When you order on-line (like we just did) and you take mail delivery, what you get is a voucher - it is NOT the AP itself. You then need to take your voucher to any Guest Relations window at a park (or DTD) and get your actual AP. The day you actually get your AP is the day it is "active" and the clock starts ticking.

Quick one
I'm waiting on my papers (FED _EX MY NEW FRIEND) and can turn them around in about a day have noterie waiting .How long does it take to get in the system to get the discounts and so forth.Do you have to wait to close (not sure when that is ) or wait for card to arrive .Can I get a temporary card I'm leaving in about 10 days and plan on doing some Xmas shopping and 10% off would be great .

When we got the DDE membership the last week in September we got actual "temporary " cards and the list of participating locations when we went to EPCOT guest relations. Guess they decided the letter was too cumbersome to put in your wallet. Haven't broken even yet but expect to next September when there are more of us going. I only had to give them the number for my AP and we got two cards. Activated the AP's at DTD about 10 AM, called DDE and ordered that from DTD and picked up the cards that day after 5:30.

Actually, the letters, faxes and emails were being abused. It's much more difficult to abuse a temporary card.
