if you are interested in a specifc view, like at the VWL - pool side, near elevator - when can you make this request? Can you make this at the time you book or do you have to wait until you get there to see what is available?

When I have paid for reservations, you can make a request at the time of reservation, but nothing is guaranteed. I have never had a problem getting the request or something real close to it - that was still acceptable.

Does this still work the same with the DVC?

It has always been suggested that your most important requests be made at the time you make your reservation. Bear in mind that the fewer requests you have, the more likely you are to get them.

We usually only request non-smoking for medical reasons and take what we get for view. So far, I have only had one stay out of 25 that has had a less than desireable view.

Exactly the same with DVC...especially the no guarantee thing. With DVC, not "getting the request or something real close to it" is very possible. I wouldn't say that is unacceptable....it's just something that could happen. Hopefully if the room assigned is not "close enough" to your requests, you will understand.

Well it all seems reasonable and the same as making a regular reservation.

I was a little confused when I read all the posts about special room requests. I am VERY new with DVC, and did not know how they might treat their guest services differently than a $$ res. at a standard resort.

Thanks to everyone for their comments.

I think the earlier you check in the better chance you have of getting what you may want in a room.

What about a specific room number? DH and I stayed in a corner room at BWV #2123 and the room was really big and I am assuming it was because it was on the corner of the building. We would love to get that same room. Can we request it, or is that next to imposible to get?

Well, it never hurts to ask, but I would think it's next to impossible. The room would have to be vacant from the person before you checked in. With DVC's high occupancy rates, that's pretty much luck of the draw. You never know, you might get lucky.
