DVC and being local

In the next 14 months we expect to be moving to the Orlando area. After this winter and a fortuitous job opportunity we are going to take the plunge. My question is how will this proximity effect our use of DVC. We have used our membership outside of WDW, but mainly on property. We will grow tired of it? I was thinking it would still be nice to stay on property if only for long weekends. Any opinions?? TIA

We hope to move to FL by the end of the year! We are wondering about the same things you are. We do enjoy VB, and HHI, so they will be popular destinations for us as well.

I would need even more points if I lived close. Without the need of high price airplane tickets, I would stay many weekends or even drive over to Vero.

FWIW, we live about 90 minutes drive from Disneyland and have access to three different timeshare properties near DLR: Grand Cal through DVC and two off-property Worldmark locations.

While we do travel for both work and vacation to lots of locations ... we also use the properties near Disneyland far more than we should admit! We do several 1- or 2-night stays, most often weekends, throughout the year.

Living close is the bomb!
I am a 3rd generation native of FL, I have lived my life except for college within 30 miles of Orlando, been here long before Disney started looking for a place for WDW.
FL resident specials for both tickets and DCL.
We can take day trips to DTD or one of the parks that turn into over-night stays at a moments notice.
Plan a long multi-family vacation, then when we need to get away by ourselves tell them we have to run home for something.
Going to both SW and US/IoA on FL resident specials, provide another reason to use your DVC.

LOL! Sounds like living in Orlando isn't all that different from San Diego. Locals are expected to have APs at SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo/Animal Park, Legoland, etc. $$$$$

I live local and bought into DVC- best decision ever! I use it mainly for long weekends and usually have a weekend booked every other month or so. It is nice to be able to invite friends and family to join us for the weekend. Sometimes we go to the parks and sometimes we stay at the resort the whole time. Maybe its just me but I definitely do not get tired of it!

We are like bwvBound but live around 20 minutes from Disneyland PLUS DVC ownere @ VGC! We also take advantage of staying at a few hotels close to DL so we can use the 1 hour Early Entry Perk! Our family is now TOO spoiled by staying ON property that sometimes it makes our 4 - 6 hours visits longer that it should be! I think that being a LOCAL DVC member has been one of the best things we've ever done for our family!!

We bought way before we moved to Fl but being somewhat of a local (90 mins) it's a great thing to have. Life is always changing, little kids grow up and then get married and then have little ones again.......so I guess there is always a season for DVC....

You have HH or VB for non park trips that are close by. Or you can venture to Hawaii or disneyland..


You can go to MVMCP or mnsshp and just sleep over 1 night.

You can stay over just for the New Year's Eve or July 4 th fireworks

Use your points on DCL.....

Long weekends for star wars, Christmas decorations, 24 hour park events......or long romantic weekends at the GFV

Or you can use them to meet friends......because you know you will get lots of visitors...

Or let your friends stay at your house while you go to your DVC for a getaway.

With no airfare, room cost (MF are paid once a year so you don't get a bill after your stay so in a way it no cost) and great ticket discounts it's a very affordable getaway.

And if you don't use the points...you can always rent them out.....for a year or 2.

My parents live in Longwood and I live 3 hours away. We use it for long weekends and love it.

You could also rent them and take the cash for something else. Or DCL.

But we love our long weekends at Disney. We go 3 times a year.

I'm a local (about 90 min west of WDW) and we use our DVC for long weekends, over night stays. Love, love, love doing this.

I don't think I would have bought if I wasn't local.
