DVC and a "having guests over" question..

Hmm, too bad for the traders. :sad2: I thought they might have a chance, given that they will segment point reservations. But, at least now we know.

Thanks Dean!
Given the specifics I thought that would be the case. The only reason I even thought there was a chance was that I had inquired previously by email and was told to call instead of just being told no. Prior to that I had assumed the answer would have been no. Still, it's a small price to pay for an uptrade to DVC, as is paying for the internet even though we are members. We're going to use the weekend and have a friend use the other 4 nights gratis. It really is fun to share DVC with those that truly appreciate it and it's value.

I don't want to throw off the conversation about guests and segmenting while exchanging points, but just wanted to say/ask that I thought resorts (any resort, not just Disney property) wants a list of all guests in each room for safety & security reasons, especially if there was an emergency that required a building evacuation and people needed to be accounted for. Not sure this is standard practice or not, but thought I had heard or read this somewhere? Makes sense to me, but not really sure what the exact rules are :confused3.

NO, most places don't ask for a full list, just how many keys you need. Some ask if you'll have charging, esp if they use a key or paper where you can sign. I'm sure Disney is doing this for profiling reasons more than anything else.

That is correct, it is Disney/DVC policy that all guest be registered.

In Dean's example, as long as his group size and his friends group size total does not exceed occupancy, they can all be listed on the initial reservation.

For example, if Dean has a two bedroom reserved, and his group is 4 people, and his friends group is 4 people, all 8 can be listed on the reservation without segmenting. The fly in the ointment would be if either group wants a dining plan.

Now, if it was a two bedroom, and Dean's group was 6 people and his friends group was 6 people, that would be a problem, even without the dining plan. They could only all be listed in a segmented reservation.

LOL, in this case there are 6 people in a 1 BR. However, there will be 2 for 3 nights and 4 for 4 nights with no overlap. No DDP this trip because it's not feasible without segmenting.

And, I am assuming, no ME, so that change can likely be handled at the front desk.

We're 4 hours away driving time so no ME. I don't think there'd be any other way to handle it except onsite given the specifics. I'm just glad someone who appreciates it will be getting the use of the rest of the week rather than it sitting empty.

Hmm. At DLR there are no ADR's or DDP's, so I would not want to segment a reservation at VGC. Last year we had kids with us for the first couple nights, then kids went off with grandparents and we had childless friends come in for the long weekend. We just gave the adult names for the whole trip, since the kids aged 3-5 didn't need keys anyways and were always accompanied by adults. Friends that arrived later picked up their keys when they arrived.

Planning on doing something similar this year, except kids on the weekend, then they're going back to school on Monday with the grandparents and adults friends arriving then. I'll ask member services if it needs to be listed that way with switching out names or if we can do the same thing as last year when I call to add one more night as soon as DH gets his time-off request approved. =) Sounds like a lot of hassle when the head count is staying the same.

WDW is going to be weird for us having to be responsible for our own kids the _entire_ Disney trip and not acting like children ourselves for most of it. :rolleyes1
