DVC Accounts need different computers?

I called Member Services to get an activation code for my husband so that he can access his digital membership card since our blue ones are now expired. We've been members since 2016 and have always just used my online account for everything. We have the same membership number.

After providing the code, the rep advised that we always use different computers to log in. She actually even advised us to only use his account just to get the card and use mine for everything else because using the same computer causes problems. Although we don't plan to use his account for anything else, I thought her advice was interesting. Is there really an issue when you access different DVC Accounts using the same computer?

They were likely trying to distill a complex issue to something simple. There is nothing wrong with using the same computer, as a rule, it’s the cookie that is created when you log in that can cause issues. I see it pop up jumping between different Disney sites, like going from the disneyvacationclub.Disney.com to disneyworld.Disney.com, if I try to get my wife’s account to load I sometimes just get the forever spinning ball. If I clear cookies, everything works well again.

This isn’t an uncommon thing for a lot of sites. I manage my wife’s AMEX account and mine on my computer, and sometimes I get odd site behavior when trying to switch accounts. Generally, it should work fine and the cookie should expire on logout and that. But anyone familiar with Disney IT knows that intention or how it “should” work isn’t always enough.

So no, you can absolutely use the same computer. You may just want to clear cookies between changing users, at least if you notice problems. I registered both mine and my wife’s DVC accounts on my computer. Either the CM was trying to just keep it simple instead of explaining all that, or they also don’t know about how the cookies work and were just told by someone else to use different computers and they never questioned it.

Can't the issue be solved by using different browsers on the same computer? i.e. always use Chrome for your husband's and Firefox for yours.

Yeah this is a good move also. I do it a lot. My primary browser is Firefox, but every so often I will use Chrome if things are acting up.
