I'm thinking about purchasing a maclaren stroller from ebay as the price is very good. But has anyone purchased anything from ebay before where it was shipped from the US to Canada? I was wondering what the duty and taxes would be??

You have to pay GST & PST and duty (usually around 18%) on the CDN value. If the item is shipped via Canada Post there is also a $5 processing fee, but if it is shipped FEDEX or UPS, etc, they charge much higher brokerage fees. I was charged a $50 brokerage fee on a something that was shipped via UPS.

I just got screwed over on thIs too. I lucked out, getting a Toledo Inferno bat for $78 USD ($150 USD bat), paid the $20 USD shipping (Since it had to come all the way across the world....a 7 hour drive), and 2 weeks later received a bill from FEDEX, aka Fraudex, for an additional $32 Duty, TAX AND BROKERAGE. Almost 50% in duty, taxes and fees, even though shipping was already bumped up $8 because it was leaving civilization. :furious:

I agree with the two previous posters. Be very careful about duty. If you can have the item sent through regular parcel USPS then you should be fine if they list is as a gift. But anything sent through UPS or Fedex get ready to open your wallet alot more than you expected! One of my first purchases on Ebay a few years back was a digital camera at a great price, but was sent UPS and when all was said and done I owed and extra $72.00 in taxes and duty I didn't know about.

Yes - there are taxes and duty. I paid $60 at my front door for a camera I bought from an eBay store with standard shipping.

I agree with the above posters. You should try to find a stroller in Canada to avoid the brokerage fees. My husband bought hockey cards from the US sent via UPS and we were not charged any duty, but we were still charged $40 in brokerage fees, and taxes on the fees. When we buy from US we ask to ship USPS. Takes longer, but Canada Post doesn't seem to charge as much in fees. Last week we bought a part for our car from Texas, cost $90 US. and we were charged by Canada Post $11. Well worth it considering it would have cost us over $200 Cdn to buy here. When sending payment thru paypal we put a note stressing not to send UPS in the comment section. We haven't had any problems since. Good luck!!!
