On our flight to Orlando, we have a stopover at Regan National. Are we able to buy alcohol at the duty free in Toronto? It seems that we have to go through security again at Regan, but I'm not sure. US airports seem to have a security checkpoint for different gates. They don't seem to be like Cdn airports with only one security area. Any thoughts or insight?

You will not be able to purchase at Toronto's Duty Free, upon return to Toronto (at least for now, they are considering offering this service).

You will have to purchase any Duty Free in Washington.

Absolutely you can't purchase duty free upon return to Toronto.

I usually have connecting flights from the U.S. and I would either purchase duty free at the last connection (Washington for you), or I purchase at a liquor store before I leave (Orlando for you) and put it in my checked luggage. I haven't had a broken bottle in my checked luggage yet, but I still worry a little.

I don't usually face multiple secure areas (except $#%&@ Heathrow!). If you do face multiple secure areas, ask the duty free shop before you purchase. They might tell you to go to your departure secure area and use another duty free shop, or they might be able to deliver it anyway. Either way, they'll know because you can't carry your duty free purchase around, they MUST deliver it to you at the gate (they need to look at your boarding pass for that). They should know when they look at your boarding pass if there would be a problem, but sometimes people are in a hurry and get careless, so I'd ask them specifically.

Thanks, I'll definately ask when we are in TO.

I think that you would be able to buy Duty Free in Toronto. This is the only portion of your trip that is an International flight. The flight from Washington to Orlando is a domestic flight and would not be allowed any duty free purchases. If you need to go through security in Washington any Duty Free purchases would need to be placed in your checked luggage. You would be limited to 3 OZ in your carry on if you have to go through security.

I'm not sure if you want to buy on which part of the trip, so here it goes for both parts:

On the way to Orlando, you can purchase goods at the Duty Free in Toronto BEFORE clearing US customs (doing Toronto-Reagan-Orlando). However, you will then need to put it in your checked luggage, since you won't have cleared security at that point.

On the way back, if doing the same itinerary, you can purchase duty free at Reagan.

Thanks rewok - your first example is what I was looking for. I wasn't sure if we could put the duty free in our checked luggage or not. I thought we checked our luggage then went through duty-free.
