Duty Free Question

OK - I haven't been overseas in awhile, so I have a question about Duty Free for anyone who has been over and back lately.

I want to purchase a pair of Chanel sunglasses while in Paris. After all, Paris is the home of Chanel! Am I better off purchasing them in the airport at a Duty Free shop (is there even a duty free shop that sells them?) or at the Chanel Paris boutique?

If your flying from the EU then it will only be Tax free not Duty free. Not sure if they will be cheaper in France also got to factor in the exchange rate.

I found when I was looking at a pair of Oakley sunglasses on the ferry which was meant to be the tax free shop. I decided not to buy them, good job as I found they were £30 cheaper through Oakley themselves!

I would say know your prices before hand

As a general rule French brands are cheaper in the US (or in the UK) than here ... I also buy cosmetics and skincare abroad unless I get the -35% sale that Galeries Lafayette do once a year.

I know Dior sunglasses are cheaper in the UK than here as I bought some last month

You can have a look at the Solaris site even if they don't have Chanel you can compare prices on other brands

Depending on how much you will be spending you can get tax back but with the $/€ exchange rate it might not be worth it

Glad to help a bit

Chanel are difficult to get prices for as they don't sell most of their products outside of the Chanel boutiques

They are 291€ so 432$ at todays rate
(It's great for us but terrible for you the $ atm)
So you can always try and see how much this pair costs you locally

And if you like Chanel makeup and nail polish then it's worth going to the boutique as they have ultra limited pieces that are only sold in the boutique here
