We are planning to stop at duty free in Ft. Erie & am wondering if you can bring booze in your carry-on from Buffalo airport or does it have to go in your checked luggage?

Yep....must go in the checked bag. The max size for liquids in carry on is 3.4 oz.

Unless you plan on drinking it while you are on vacation just leave it in the car. If you place it in your checked bag make sure it is very well packed in case it breaks. It's one thing to get your own stuff wet but not very nice to get other peoples things wet.

I forgot about the liquid rule!

No we want to drink it while we're on holidays so it will have to go in the checked bag, my DH likes to have his rye & cokes while we're away & I'll grab some coolers so I don't have to pay a ton of $$$ for a drink. I'll bring a plastic bag to put it in & wrap it in a towel.

Thanks!

I would suggest that you double or triple bag the bottles. I've even heard of people bubble wrapping after they triple bag.

Another option is to buy a bottle at the hotel. It's not that expensive in the gift shop. In particular if you are used to paying CAD prices for booze.

We've packed booze in our luggage before & never had a problem. My DH loves his CC & we've always had trouble finding it when we're down south. The bag it's going in will only have shoes, pool towels, & other things we can't pack in our take on. All our clothes will be with us.

We'll manage to find something. Too bad they don't sell it in plastic bottles.

You can get Canadian Club in plastic bottles at Fort Erie duty free. I have one in my cabinet.

Awesome, I think a micky will do since we won't have time to drink really but sometimes you just want to sit down & relax at night time and have a drink before you crash :)

We bought some of those XL Ziploc bags - big enough for clothes and jackets, etc. We put our bottles in there, along with dirty clothes (when coming home) - that way if the bottle broke, it was contained and only got dirty clothes wet.

When you check out at the Peace Bridge Duty Free in Fort Erie, ask the cashier to wrap the bottle in a bubble wrap bag. They have them just for this reason.
Also, one tip. You can buy there what you want to bring back into Canada as well after your trip. ie. Buy 3 bottles of liquor for a couple, take 1 bottle down to Orlando and leave the other 2 bottles in your car trunk. When you come back to Buffalo, you already have your dutyfree exemptions for your return. Plus there are usually deals / specials on 3 or 4 bottle purchases.

If you have another question, let me know. I work at the Peace Bridge Duty Free and I'm a fellow Disney fan!

Haha, an inside edge :))) We're not alchoholics or anything, but damn that tax it awful!!

I will def get them wrapped!!!

so is it better to go to the duty free on your way in? I always stop at the Peace bridge duty free in USA just before going back to Canada. Never thought you could do it the other way. Have no idea why i never thought i was allowed to shop in the one right over. Or is it the same one ;)

That's a great tip about stopping on the way over...we definitely don't want to miss getting duty free but our return flight gets into Buffalo quite late and I'm sure that we will just be wanting to get home. I'm not sure if I'm feeing all that great about packing a bottle in luggage, I would be too afraid that it would get broken. I think we'll just buy our duty free leave it in the car while we are gone and then buy booze at the gift shops when we are down there. Does anyone know what is available at the Pop Century store?

We always stop on our way there & our way back. We've never had anything get broken. We've bought canned beer & thrown loose cans in our bags to take with us.

Are the prices the same at the Duty free going in to USA as it is leaving?

It really depends on what specials are running. Right now, there's a deal in Fort Erie for 4 bottles of Crown Royal at $75 cdn, 4 bottles of Absolut at $63 and 3 cs of beer (Canadian beer vs US beer) for $56 cdn.

Leaving it in the trunk for the return is a good habit, but make sure it's not a cream based (Bailey's) liqueur. Beer is fine as well.

Myself, at this time of year I'm leaving the cases of beer in the trunk, and taking a bottle of scotch down for the week. My daughter wonders why her suitcase is so big.:)

thanks but 4 would not do us good( well it would :goodvibes) but we can only bring back 1 bottle or case of beer. And i can only imagine how much taxes/duty i would pay on the excess....:scared1:

This is a good question for "Canadianiagarafamily"
We are going during Food and Wine Festival, and would like to bring back a few bottles(over our limit) that we just cannot get here in the land of LCBO restrictions.
Any idea how much more we would pay in duty to bring back a few extra bottles of wine.
I had a friend tell me it really wasn't that much.......much less than you would pay in Canadian taxes..but the real thing is I would like some varieties we just can't get here.
