I understand that there are a different dune buggy excursions available at Cozumel. One is booked thru Disney, and there are other tours available in town. Any feedback or recomendations as to which was more enjoyable or better?

Thanks for the help.

I can only speak for the tour that we took. We have been on 4 cruises and the whole family thought that this had been our best excursion. The tour was very informal the 2 guides that we had were great. This was not booked through disney. There were no waivers signed or directions on how to drive. It was more like here is your car lets go and is anyone ready for a beer yet? The web site is:

Let me know if you have any more questions

We did the Jungle Jeep Tour when we were in Cozumel in August 2003. This was not a cruise ship excursion but one both my brother and I found while surfing the net. The tours had good reviews and while I was a bit hesitant about booking an excursion through an independent company it turned out to be the best excursion we did. We did pass a cruise ship jeep tour which consisted of about 20+ jeeps. Ours was just two jeeps and I imagine much more personable than going with a huge group of people. I highly recommend using this company. Our guide, Susan, was so nice and knew quite a bit about the Mayan culture. Richard, the owner, was just as nice. HTH

I believe that the one through Disney is the Jeep tour. There is also a dune buggy tour through cozumel homes (same site posted earlier). We booked this for last September, but with the hurricanes were redirected to a modified Eastern cruise and did not get the chance to do it. We are planning to go in October as long as we make it to Cozumel.

Wow, checked out the site for cozumelhome and it looks really cool. Having a buggy myself, this looks like loads of fun. Definatly want to check that out when we get to Cozumel!

Just beaware of one thing. We booked the independant tour because we had a 9 year old and Disney requires a minimum age of 10. I paid the deposit and the full amount before leaving because they would only take cash the day of the trip. We were on a hurricane cruise and could not do the tour. I got my money back, minus the $80 deposit after returning, but only after 4 e-mails and 2 phone calls. So just remember the deposit is not refundable, I called from the ship 24 hours before but that only allowed me the refund I got. So I spend over $20 in phone calls plus the deposit for nothing.

markey,

Did you book through cozumel homes? We were booked also (we sailed on the 9/11/04 cruise) and paid the excursion in full. I could not get through to them right before we sailed, but left a message because I knew that we were not going to Cozumel at that time and were refunded in full. I was not sure if I would have problems, but had no problems.

Sorry to hear that you had problems.

I'm interested in this too but I also found an ATV tour with a 6 years old minimum age at Cozumel Excursions - ATV Tour and they too have a jeep tour that sounds interesting. Any idea which one would be better? My son who just turned 6 likes the look of the ATV's:-)

Can 3 kids fit in the back seat of the dune buggies from Cozumel homes? We are a family of 5 and are wondering if we will need two dune buggies or one.

For thoise that have done this tour- is it really dusty? We're leaving next Saturday- thought about this tour, but hesitated ebcasue I have asthma and thought it might be too disty for me to breath in. Any info would help! thanks

Yes I did book through cozumel homes, I think her name was Veronica.

It was very dusty. We were all pretty dirty when we were done. The dune buggy only seats 4. You would need 2 cars but then you do not have to share the driving :jumping4:

Thanks for that info XLT- I think I'll be passing on that tour :(

Any feedback from Dis cruisers who booked the jeep tour through DCL ? Sounds like more people go "outside of a Dis sponsered excurison" my only worry would be to make sure our Dis family was back in time to board.

We did the Dune Buggy tour through Cozumelhomes and had a blast!! It was the highlight of our trip. I have to say, it wasn't dusty for us, it was muddy! It rained for about a half hour on the way to the dunes (you drive through town first). There were puddles that were up to your knees if you got out. We did go in the rainy season though. We had five people in our dune buggy. It was me, DH, DD (10), DD (4) and also my oldest DD's new friend from the ship (her family was on it too and they wanted to sit together). Unfortunately for us, we forgot to bring towels and got soaked, luckily a couple in another buggy gave us a poncho for our DD's to share. Even getting wet, we still had a great time.

The beach that you stop at for lunch was just OK. Alot of debree (maybe from the hurricanes around that time) and the water smelled kind of funky. The food that they made right there on the beach was really good though. I remember chicken, salsa and chips, and gaucamole (sp?) and I think some other vegtables. If you don't mind getting a little dirty and are adventurous, you should like this excursion. We took tons of pictures.

If you have any questions, let me know. :D
