Dumb tivo question

So I finally have my tivo set up. Now, I try to change my channels with the tivo arrows and it will show the other channels but doesn't actually change the channel. ykwim? How can I change channels on my tivo? btw I have dish network and a regular tivo series 2 dvr.

Are there two sets of arrows on the remote control. Mine has one set that changes the channel automatically, and one that just scrolls and you press "select" when you find something you like.

In the Tivo guide? I just browse and scroll. When I see something I want, I highlight it and press 'select'. If the program is currently on, it changes the channel. If it's about to come on, it schedules the recording.

Here's another dumb question...

Is it possible to record a show on Tivo on one channel and watch a different channel at the same time...like I used to be able to do with a regular vcr?

You have to make sure you set up your tivo remote to work with you cable box and your tv. Now, DH did this, so I'm not sure of the process, but I'm sure it's in the handbook.

in order to record one thing and watch another, you have to have a separate antenna or cable source to the tv from the tivo box, so you either have to split the signal or have a second cable box.
