Dumb surfing question

Can you surf on the west coast of florida? My son likes to surf , and we've been to the east coast but I was wanting to try the west coast somewhere, but didnt know if you can surf on the gulf side.

I live on the Gulf Coast of Florida (in the panhandle), and there is lots and lots of surfing here.

No surfing in Clearwater Beach (mid FL-Tampa area) unless a storm comes in. I've been there at times when the Gulf was like glass and last Feb I was there and it was like a tropical storm-saw surfers then. Mostly I see people doing boogie boards. We have lots of surfers here on the Texas coast

My husband does this in Fort Myers on the causeway and LOVES it!! Not the same equipment but still fun!!
