OK my DS is car mad - loves cars from Formula one to top gear and everything in between. We think our trip in October will be our last for a few years as he gets his head down to UK exams :scared1:

We would love to book some transport that will excite him to and from Seaworld and guess he would love a first limo ride so my questions are

  • what configuration do limo seats have - I have no idea do some face forwards and some sideways?
  • Is one kind of limo better than another (to me they are just vehicles but no DS will know the difference.)
  • Are you able to recommend a company (mods please advise if this is not allowed)
  • If you are car mad then would you go limo or something else?

Any help much appreciated.

I have been in various limos a couple times in my life. I don't think any two had the same seating arrangement. Some had a "back bench" facing a "rear facing" bench directly behind the driver. Some had a curved bench along the back and one wall. Some were curved along the front (behind the drivers seat) and one wall.

As far as what's "better", I think it depends on what your seating requirements are and what amenities are available (TV, radio, mini-bar, sunroof, etc). What's important to one person will be different than for another one.

I would do an internet search for "Orlando Limousine" (I don't remember who the Dis Sponsor is-- sorry mods) and make some calls and see what they have. You might find a company that has a "stretch Hummer"... that would be a little different.

Good luck.

If I were you, I would skip the limo and book a Richard Petty Experience at the Walt Disney Speedway. You can either choose a race car or an exotic car experience.:thumbsup2

thanks - have ruled this out due to time restraints but it looks great.

Can you drive? What I would do if there is no way you can take the time to let him do the Petty Experience ride-along is to rent a specialty car for your day off-property. It won't be cheap, but he'll love it. (I assume he's a young teen, since you're closing in on exams?)

Best bet for a car enthusiast is what Americans call a "muscle car." These are production cars that have very powerful engines for their size, and they are pretty much all US domestic makes; things you don't often see in the UK. Top choice would be a Corvette, but that is a two-seater and will cost the earth to insure. Most of the major agencies have Ford Mustangs available for a decent price, and while it isn't as cool as a 'Vette, I'm sure it would still make him pretty happy. (However, he will probably be a bit disappointed that US rental cars just about always have automatic transmissions, even the sporty ones.)

By renting a car you will get to keep it for 24 hours, which will give him the opportunity to crawl all over it once you get back to your resort. He will be able to sit in the drivers seat and put his hands on the wheel to get a good feel for the engine, and let him pop the hood to examine the engine. I'll bet anything that he'll enjoy that more than SeaWorld.

Honestly, most car enthusiasts don't care for limos at all; they are too cushy and soft. Car people like to feel the power of a vehicle. If you absolutely have to do a limo-type thing, I'd go for the Hummer; it's a rougher ride and odd enough to be interesting.

PS: Prepare to spend a lot of time at Test Track on your visit. It is going down this week for a complete redesign, and is scheduled to reopen at the end of September. Car people tend to really love the exhibits that are next to it, and as it is being re-done with a Chevrolet theme, it is almost a sure bet that they will be putting a top-of-the-line Corvette on display in there.

Just my opinion but I don't think a limo would excite a young, male car enthusiast. When my son was 15 and 11 1/2 months, we rented a cherry red mustang for 2 days. He practically slept in it!!! I think we used a Hertz rental agency just off property. They picked my husband up at the resort, brought him to the agency where he filled out the paperwork & picked up the car. 2 days later, he dropped the car off & they drove him back to the resort. My best guess was it cost about $150 for 2 days. The look on my son's face when Dad pulled up (we didn't tell him in advance) was priceless!!!

The Richard Petty Ride A Long experience would take at the most an 1 hour or a little less time to do. My husband did this in Feb and enjoyed it.
