Dumb Question - taken?

So I'm beginning to get it - rides, games, points, stuff...

But what is all this "are you taken" stuff? Can you only add one friend? Is there any point to adding someone you don't know? I understand the social aspect and all, but is there some 'game' reason to be 'taken'?

they mean are you dating someone, do you have an in game boyfriend or girlfriend. I'm not really sure what people do when they're taken other than talking, sitting/standing near eachother, saying "I heart you" and having random overly dramatic break-ups in public rooms.

What's funny is being totally against it.

I have been against the whole thing since day one, but for an hour I thought I'd try it out. For an hour. Had to sign off because she was getting friggin' annoying.

Yeah, haven't seen her since! I see no reason why people should be doing 'taken'. This is a game: not a virtual world.

I find myself laughing at anyone doing 'taken' and saying stuff like:

[No one wants me on their team! - sob - I am really crying in real life - sob -]

I don't care! I really don't! I laugh at anyone that treats this as more than a game. Yes, it is an obsession and a great place to hang out with like-minded people, but trying to make people feel guilty or having virtual boyfriends and girlfriends is useless.

I did this yesterday: I've had about 17 trade requests.

I'm glad you're figuring your way around VMK, but I'm also sad you too are getting to see taken in all it's non-glory.

I still for the life of me can't figure out why VMK doesn't stop it. We can't say our ages, so you have no clue how old people are unless you know them outside of the game. First time someone asked me, I was totally creeped out by it. The way he talked made me think he was around 8 or so... I'm sorry, I don't want to "date" a stranger period, let alone someone 1/3 of my age! *shudders* Yes, all us girls and guys look like young folks, but many of us are adults. Just the thought of a child coming up to me and asking me to be "taken" by them when I'm in grad school working on a Master's... yeah, it creeps me out big time. Maybe one day VMK will wise up and stop it, but somehow I doubt it.

I don't really understand why they don't just give up and let us use numbers, since we pretty much already are so it's not really fixing any problems. It just confuses the heck out of new people. They can't remove every possible number alternative.

Just my two cents.

Exactly. This creeps me out the same way the "bay be" thing does. Even if I indulged the idea for a minute I am reminded that I am an adult woman and what if I am playing this with a minor? Shouldn't that still be a crime of some sort? Personally I think it would benefit everyone if we were allowed to display an age on our profile. Sure, some would lie about it but it would be more straightforward for the rest of us.

I know I remember telling some creepo in as many words as vmk would allow me that I was not a young girl, but a married woman with kids. His or her reply was "gross". I thought it was hysterical but it makes a good point. How do these kids or adults playing taken know that the person they are with isn't really some disgusting specimen of a creature in real life? I mean, vmk doesn't have characters who look overweight, balding, old, or equipped with some other flaw that the masses find repulsive. So yeah, without knowing who the person really is on the other end I find the game itself repulsive and laughable at best.

She thanked him and he then asked the question, "Are you taken." She didn't answer so he just asked, "Will you be my girlfriend?" the girl then got angry and said, "Hey! Its me!" he ignored that and said, "Yes or no?" She replied with a no. He asked, "Why not?" and she just said, "I'm your sister!"! I was dying of laughter the whole time.

Ok, I have been away from the VMK for awhile 'cause I had a very slow dial up and I just gave up on it. I just got DSL so I am getting back into VMK and on the 4th I was in VMK with my DS. We were in a room and this poor girl was just trying to make conversation with a boy. Then another girl came into the room (she had was a Guest number, not a name yet) and began demanding to know who this girl was. The girl seemed confused, as was I, and the Guest demanded she leave the boy alone and stop trying to make conversation with him! I (my character) went over and sat with them and so Guest demanded to know who I was. I told her I was a "big person" and asked her why it mattered who I was. She immediately got up and ran to a far corner of the room and the boy went running after her. This left that poor little girl alone on the seat. I sat down and started talking to her, which, today with all the fear of on-line adults, freaked her out so she ran out of the room. I (my character) went back and sat with DS. I thought how sad and strange the VMK has changed in the months I had been gone! Some of the kids are down right mean to each other.....sadly, just like in RL!

once this girl on my friends list goes "come to my room", and i had nothing better to do so i went. she starts telling me how sad she is bc her boyfriend on vmk left her. then she goes to me "do you like boys?". i say "no, not on vmk", and she says something like "oh me neither anymore." i was happy she saw the downside of taken and is now against it, even thought i did feel bad for her.

yeah, guys ask me to be taken, and i say no bc they don't realize that i am literally only half as old as some of them (i'm 12)!

the following conversation actually happened. i can't remember exactly what we said, but it was basically exactly this:

first i got a message saying some girl, guest_ _ _ wanted to trade with me. i accepted, figuring she probably wanted to trade for my dress, bc that's all anyone wants anymore it seems.

in the trade:
me: hi
(a minute or 2 pass)
me: are you there? (i start to check out the disboards for new threads bc she hasn't answered)
guest: hi
guest: i'm poor
guest: plz give me something
guest: i'm not taken
guest: i'll be your girl
guest: plz offer something (i'm now back from the disboards and am reading what she said)
guest: offer something
me: excuse me! i'm a girl too!
(i exit the trade and leave the room as quickly as i can)

i think it is bad that:
1. ppl are now asking to be taken in trades
2. ppl are trying to be taken with opposite genders
3. ppl are using the whole idea of "give me something for free and i'll be yours"

i probably took it too seriously, but i'm still disgusted by it!

Guy hits on new girl-- who then leaves after a bit.

Ah... Starting the Taken Conversation with that... and the fact that it looks like she's attacking him that makes this funny.

She then goes over to the first Guy and they strike up the conversation. Please note the hilarious Guest sitting on the bench. Made me laugh for a good couple minutes!

All the while, I'm laughing at all these people, inserting witty remarks here and there (explaining why first dude tries to explain why two people are laughing at their conversation). Suddenly, another girl pops into the room and runs over to the first guy. [Jack] I couldn't resist, mate! [/Jack]

but take creaps me out now my sister that is 8 play it i am doing any thing i can to stop her becuse
1: once she figurs the game out she will jump right in to the game and do it
2:i dont want my mom to see and not let me play it after all that i have

although i dont have a problem that you are against taken and i fully understand why you are but i do it anyway just not on my boy mule bc you know what. although i would like to share some stories and be on the look out for funny taken conversations for you and post them. i do have a story about a boyfriend and girlfriend breaking up in this cafe i was in. and then the girl was begging him to still be her boyfriend but the boyfriend left and the girl was sitting all alone sad. i think i remember getting a job at this restaurant, i get a lot of jobs. and i was at the street party and this girl playing a mix asked for "less be ans" out there. it just creeps me out.
