Dumb question of the day - what is a Croque Monsieur

A Croque Monsieur is my favourite snack :goodvibes

It's a cheese and ham toastie but with melted gruyere cheese on the top of the bread too. It's DELICIOUS!

And a Croque Madame is exactly the same, but it has a fried egg on top as well as the gruyere cheese. :cutie:

They are sooo yummy, I think I have seen some with mushrooms too. but the cheese and ham are my favorite :lovestruc

A yummy yummy toasted sandwich. You can get with ham and cheese or mushrooms and cheese. Both varieties are lovely.
They had them in lidl lately and they tasted very similar to the ones in DLP. Heaven!

In WDS ive had them in The Blockbuster Cafe
And in DLP Ive had them in a couple of places on Main St Usa across from Caseys > maybe The Markethouse Deli or Cable Car Bake House.
As far as I can remember they are about €6 and make a lovely lunch :thumbsup2

I have had them at the cable bake shop and the blockbuster cafe, but last year they did have them within the buffet at the plaza gardens but they did not seem to be as nice as the other places :confused3

Traditionally at home (and years ago in cafés) you do them in a frying pan. Now as people are after eating less fat they are done in a toaster oven or under a broiler.

A basic one is sliced white bread, slice of ham and some Swiss cheese. A fancy one will have a real bechamel sauce in it flavoured with nutmeg. You can also get like Adam said a Croque Madame and a Croque Provençal which comes with tomatoes as well as the ham/cheese in and is less heavy

At DLP I think they have stopped the mushroom ones much to my disgust :sad2:(I am funny about where the ham I eat comes from) as neither the Market House Deli nor Blockbuster Café have them on their menus or in the display cases anymore :confused3

A Mickey brioche :goodvibes

It's a sweet type of bread made with milk and filled with a chocolate nutella type paste

I wa caught out at Rainforest Cafe as DD really likes cheese and ham toasties so I ordered one for her but it had bechamel sauce in it instead of basic cheese and she was NOT impressed

Oh No Carrie_Cat can you no longer get Mickey Brioche's? all the times i have been i had my first in November last year as it came with my coffee and fell in love with them :lovestruc. It was on my to eat list :rotfl2:

No the Mickey Brioche are safe, it's the Mushroom croque that seems to have died a death sadly :sad2:

I had one in Backlot Express (now the Blockbuster Cafe) in the Studios, and very nice it was too! Not bad value either - it filled a gap in the middle of the day (we tend to go for a big breakfast and evening meal, with the odd snack during the day to keep us going).

PHEW!!!! Thanks Carrie_Cat i started to panic :lmao:
