My brother is a D.O. (I am a FNP - nurse Practitioner) and I work with many DO's in our institiution....they are great doctors - we say they have a little bit of a nurse practitioner in them as they see the pt as a whole not just pieces....BUT many DO's come out of school and enter a residency program that is not specific for DO training so they find it difficult to practice there manipulation side of their practice and insurances do not usually pay for this type of service so it is hard to get a true DO exam if you are looking for the manuipulation part of it.....
but to answer you question what is the difference...primarily nothing in everyday practice....
