I'm going to apologize in advance cause I'm sure this has been covered here somewhere. But I don't have time sort back thru the million and one posts about FP+.:headache:

We are now debating whether to stick with our offsite accommodations or do a shorter trip and spring for onsite to get the FP+ perks. If I book onsite, can I book a room only reservation and still pre-book our FP+ attractions? Or must we have tickets attached to the reservation in order to pre-book FP+?

Just trying to figure out at what point I'd have to buy the tickets. When we stay onsite, we usually book room only to have the more generous cancellation policy, buy our tickets thru Undercover Tourist right before the trip, and then have the tickets put on our room keys when we check in.

At the moment, you need both an onsite reservation and a MDE-linked ticket to prebook FP+.

That's kinda what I figured. Thank you. Now I can proceed with my planning.:thumbsup2

You could purchase the tickets from UCT and link them to your room only reservation and still make advanced FP+ reservations, if that affect a your planning...

Good to know. We would still have to invest in the tickets earlier than usual in order to get the full 60 day pre-booking advantage. But we could still have the option of a room only reservation for cancellation purposes. And then just save the tickets for a future trip if we didn't get to go this year. Or return them I suppose. IIRC, UCT does have a return policy. But I think I would have to take the tickets out of their wrappers to link them to my room and I believe once I've done that, I can't return them. Still might not be a bad way to go tho. We would use the tickets eventually I'm sure.

You could stick with off site and pay for and book one night at the cheapest on site hotel and have access to FP+ for the length of your trip. This way you don't have to compromise on your accommodations and still get the perk of prebooking at 60 days.

You can link UCT tickets without opening the plastic, but once you link them to MDE they cannot be returned.

I thought you could only prebook FP+ for the length of the onsite reservation.

No, currently if you book one night you get to prebook for the length of ticket. Of course WDW is changing the rules all the time, but you would know at the 60 day mark. Once you are booked for your FP+ you will be locked in even if they change it.

I've been trying to figure out the whole ticket linking thing myself. I have 7 park days on a non-expiring ticket. If I link it to my reservation and only use 3 or 4 days, are the extra days still attached to the magic band? Can I get them off onto a ticket again, or do I keep the band until next trip?
