Ok; I know you can't take large toiletries on carryonbag: can you take regular size in suitcase on top in zippered bag? I haven't since 2004 and I'm dazed and confused!

You can pack any size liquid in your checked bags, they do not need to be in a plastic bag on top.
The restrictions are only for what you take onto the plane in your carry on.

You got the right answer. I still would suggest you pack those liquids in a Ziplock bag in your checked luggage. The last thing you want are wet soapy clothes. Have fun!
