DUES Info! - All resorts dues have been released

6 cents per point is very high imo and now I’m mad about it. How can we be required to pay for something then be denied access? (I have not read past this comment yet maybe someone answered how that is allowed)

As I understand it, if it has to do with residency, then we don't qualify....but it will be interesting to see if there is a way around it when @mkatsy since it sounds like for the library its just owning property? So, we have an ownership interest in the building but we are on leased land?

I just know that the POS discusses that we don't qualify for FL residency by owning DVC so I assume that anything that assumes that, we are not eligible!

Yeah I’m totally fine with not being eligible I just don’t understand how we can be required to pay for something we aren’t eligible for.

There are different tiers of library cards. There is a resident card (which as you said, we definitely don’t qualify for) and they get extra stuff like home delivery of books. There is also a property owner card, same thing minus the book delivery. There is also a fee card ($125) but it’s the stripped down version, just book privileges none of the extras. I’ll try again next week and be a bit more assertive. Last time I tried I was new to DVC and not very confident in my argument. The property owner card accepts an out of state driver license.

The only thing I see is that it says you need to be named on a tax bill and we are not.

Keep us posted!

Wouldn’t it be the same as not being eligible for any resident benefits since our ownership doesn’t make use residents, even though we are required to pay taxes?

They let the snow birds have it 🤷🏼‍♀️ and they don’t have homestead status.

But they would have property that has a tax bill in their name, right?

Someone renting who is from out of state wouldn’t be eligible would they?

Even Disney will give owners who have a property tax bill, or utility bill FL resident discounts even if they may not have a FL license.

I am not sure, and honestly, don’t know enough about the library.

Yes, they definitely would have their name in the tax bill. 👍 the renters are eligible as long as the lease is 6 months.

Have see what other types of taxes are being paid to know that. So is it like typical property taxes? We pay for schools? I never would have guessed that.

From my understanding, it’s all billed together. So, yes, the property taxes we pay support the schools as those are funded through it.

I think this is why the POS has the language about owning DVC doesn’t make us residents of the state, even though we pay taxes, have an ownership interest in the building, etc.

Where are people seeing the break down of the library fee in the taxes though? I just see the total in my dues.

I can see paying taxes for roads, traffic lights, police, emergency services but not for libraries and schools. Would be interesting to see exactly what is in the taxes.

You might be able to request that from DVC as a record of the association.

I always figured school taxes were part of it.

So let me get this straight, because I'm not part of the comma club I should be required to pay more money for my shorter stays? That's bs.
I am a member of the Comma Club and I would NOT like DVC to make any changes vis-a-vis extra charges for shorter stays or longer stays OR requiring more than the current 1 night minimum. Either of these changes would be (in my opinion) a real detriment to local owners, owners who just want to stay a day or 2 between their cruises or owners (like me) who book a 1 night Hilton Head stay as my half way point when I drive to Orlando.

I view this much differently than paying for a library. Aulani owners do benefit from the association even if it’s in a small way.

Yes the library is very different - we are forced to pay for it but we are not allowed to use it. I was just making a correlation with other fees that we are forced to pay as part of our dues.
