My wife and I are looking into the DVC. I was wondering how the dues work? I know that the rate is around $4 (varies based on resort owned).

Is this rate anually based on how many points you own. (Ex. Boardwalk dues $4.10 X points owned 200 = $820.00) Is the example above correct, I would owe $820.00 in dues for the year?

I am trying to figure out what my total cost will be to be a member. Is there any other cost other than the initial $75 per point and the dues?

Thanks,
Rich

You seem to have the right idea on dues. You will pay dues every year based on the price of dues times the number of points that you own.

The price of points if you buy from DVC is $84 a point right now. You can use Magical Beginnings towards the purchase which is $5 at BCV and $15 at Vero or HH. It is highly recommended that you buy where you plan to stay the most. The 11 month window at your home resort can be extremely important if you plan to stay during busy times of the year, that would be during holidays, the first part of December, during the Food and Wine Festival, and Spring Break.

There is apparently some costs involved in booking non-DVC accomdations. Someone who knows more can fill in the details.

The dues costs can increase over time. They haven't historically gone up by much, but they did quite a bit last year, and some people were a little shocked. They are capped at (I believe, someone will correct me if I'm wrong) a 15% increase per year.

You will still pay for everything but the room for your Disney excursions. Park passes, food, consumables in the room (laundry detergent, etc). This may or may not be obvious to you. Disney does offer some discounts on park passes, golf, some restaurants, etc. to DVC members, but these are all subject to change.

Crisi is right. If you book something other than a DVC resort there is a $75 charge. So if you go on a cruise, the Concierge Collection, or an II trade they will charge you $75 for the transaction. And the dues can go up or down each year. There is a 15% cap on yearly dues. Historically they have gone up only 1 to 3% but this year it was closer to 5% depending on which resort you own at.
