Due to Ivan I canceled WL -- hoping for opening...

DH and I canceled 20th anniv. trip for this weekend since we had to flee LA from Ivan with 2 kids and 3 dogs. Talk about fun...and expensive.

I have boo-hooed a BUNCH about not being there right now but my travel agent, Keith at Mouseketrips has been so wonderful!!! He moved our trip to Nov 11-14 but stil waiting for WL opening. We are in a king room at POR which I have heard is very nice. What is your take on that place?? We said no to GF since it is just not our style and no to CBR since he said th pool is not as great. That was all that we had to choose form Monday when I moved the trip. You thoughts please.

CBR doesn't have a great pool as compared to CSR but my kids always enjoyed it.

You might want to check out my pictures of CBR. You will truly feel like you have escaped to the islands.

We love POR & when our budget won't allow WL, that's where we stay. It's quiet, the lush landscaping is gorgeous, the food court has a great many choices, the boat to DD is wonderful, Bob (the piano player) is very entertaining, and the AB section is woodsy & rustic. We prefer AB 27 - it's a great location (close to main bldg, old man island, & south bus depot), & surrounded by landscaping & the other AB's, so no chance of a parking lot view. 2733 & 2736 are top floor, corner rooms with 2 windows (stan. view). Hope you have a great anniv. celebration & so glad the Big Easy was spared from Ivan - it's my 2nd favorite vacation spot!

I think POR is the next best thing to a WL vacation. We enjoy the Mansions and find them relaxing and romantic. The beauty of this resort is great. The landscaping is wonderful and they have won many awards for the landscaping at POR/Dixie Landing. I know how sad it is to have to cancel a trip, as we had to last year due to a family emergency. I cried so much, and hubby had to make all of the calls because I just couldn't do it. Enjoy! Take the extra money you saved on your stay (if you did) and enjoy a carriage ride at POR or/and a wonderful meal!

Just remember that the weekend is Soap Opera Weekend and the Food and Wine Festival....It will be a crowded weekend...

We too rebooked for then too cause of Ivan. The week before it is Jersey week and the one after is Thanksgiving week, so I'm hoping that of the three weeks/weekends we ended up with the one that will be the best crowd-wise.

We plan to avoid Epcot and MGM the first weekend, MK is open later those days, and then hit those parks after the weekend events are over and hopefully the crowds will be lighter.

Ugh. I am so spoiled by past trips in September! I'm not used to crowds anymore LOL.

safetymom -- great photos, I have friends who love the place.

TWOOD & n2mm -- all very great scoop and glad that you like POR. Due to aging...it is hard for me to remember the old names of this resort vs. the renamed portions...it just is confusing so I need to read on the weba and get that straight for room requests. The travel agent said how nice FQ is but...since it is litterally down the street from my home, that is no big change. I am still so set on WL with great smells and woods and lobby...never been there but we'd dreamed of it for half a year. Anniversary is in early Oct but with traveling DH, we had to do this before or after.

zurgswife -- that is my biggest fear...travel agent said Soap Op. folks just clog up MGM but the Fest sounds big and thus, rooms are booked. We have no choice but that weekend --OR -- cancel and I just cannot do that.

September was going to be great but it is just too crazy of a tropical year. My DH said let's leave the boards on the windows but it is too depressing so we are taking them down now. WAY long ago when I asked about hurricanes and Sept. travel to WDW on these boards , someone from NY kept telling me not to worry and that is is never a problem..I noted that I have to worry about home and Orlando and he said not a problem. WELL, if only I could predict lotto numbers this well. Ivan hit on the would-have-been-departure day!

I think Jersey week is when New Jersey folks are out for a week of teacher conferences??? , so many families head to WDW. We've been to Disney during some of the busiest times of the year (summer break, Christmas break, Spring break), & always manage to have a "magical time" cuz WE ARE AWAY FROM THE STRESS OF HOME! Enjoy the food & wine festival, all that POR has to offer, & celebrate 20 years with your man!

Very sweet thoughts...thanks. You are right about not stressing so much over it. I spent countless hours over trying to get the perfect WL view and now currently have NO view since I am here this week, not there. Really the get-away is the thing!

Loved POR. Stayed there twice. It is very romantic. I loved walking at night down by the food court area and sitting outside on one of the benches at night. Watching the Down Town Disney boat come and go. It was very peaceful. Walking over the little bridges around the resort holding hands with my boyfriend was special. You will love it there. I have also stayed at the WL and even though its a lovely resort POR is more private when it comes to walking the grounds which can be more romantic. Have a great trip
