Duct tape for the closet door?

If you're having a rough day or night at sea, the closet doors can slide open and shut. We just returned from the 1/24 cruise and only experienced this once and it was during the day. We took duct tape and never used it - oh, except DH tried to pull out some sliver-like sea urchin spines from his toe with it. You know men - duct tape works for everything! In the case of the urchin spines, it did not!

when the closet doors slam with the seas, you should...

1) check to make sure that they are not reversed, the latching stuff is only on one side and if the doors are reversed then there is nothing for them to latch to.

2) for really heavy motion, close the doors and in the middle junction stuff a folded washcloth.

this takes care of the doors, but you still get that annoying hanger noise on the last night, since the closet is mostly empty.

Thanks for the tips Barb. What would we all do without you? I know you made my first trip excellent instead of mearly great. Thanks soooo much!:D

We just returned from our 1st cruise 1/17/04, and that darn closet door drove me crazy on the last night, I kept getting up to fix the noise and found another noise soon after. It turns out the final unfound noise was an unlocked safe. Darn thing banged all night long!

I wish I had duct tape on my Novmeber cruise! Those darn closet doors drove me nuts. We hit HUGE waves and it sounded like there was a cannon in the room with me. The towels helped.

Please don't duct tape the furniture! The adhesive can ruin it. If you can't stop your closet door from slamming by Tony's method then speak to your stateroom host and maybe they can figure something out that won't trash the woodwork.

Thanks lisa, I never thought of that....now I do and will do different. geez I would hate to know I did that....good thinking

the wood work is Far to nice to have duct tape on it..

use Barb's method

I agree 100% with this suggestion. I am often amazed at people suggesting the "use" of duct tape for any number of purposes within their stateroom. The stuff leaves nasty residue all over and should not be used out of respect for the cruise line and for the next guest.

And, just to chime in, I've never had a problem with the closet doors moving at all. But I think it that is the case, the towel idea is an excellent solution! :D

But now I am getting scared about the movement of the ship...I do get seasick easily but I plan to take bonine from the moment I can even see the ship on the horizon..lol. But what about my little ones? I guess I could get them the patch or just see what happens? Also, they (4 and 2) are going to be sleeping together in the queen sized bed and DH and I are going to be sleeping in the area with the tv and Verandah (cat 4)...I hope they don't get thrown out of the bed. I did request siderails (2) from DU TA...has anyone ever used them from Disney? Thanks

The hangers clanking together drove me crazy one night and the sea wasn't that choppy either... I finally got up and took the hanger out of the little clip/holder. yeah, we actually had an extra hanger...
Never had a problem with the doors rolling at all.
