Ducks at CR pool

Am staying at the Contemporary, where the pool is inhabited by a flock of friendly ducks. When I asked the lifeguard how hygenic this was the answer was prefectly safe, because the chemicals in the pool kill everything, including duck droppings.
Now I am sure that the answer is 100% correct, but I am not so sure whether the CR staff should allow this continue, as I still have doubts about the wisdom of allowing animals to swim in the pool. After all where do you stop - why not allow dogs to swim in the pool also?
Am interested to hear what other people think.

I'm with you on this one. This would completely gross me out.

all disney pools have ducks.

so it is wide spread problem and disney uses something different than you would in your pool

It's probably no worse than what some kids do in the pool!

But seriously, it wouldn't bother me too much. I wonder how they would go about keeping the ducks out anyhow? Have a full-time CM on staff to chase them off? Poor little duckies...

All WDW pools have ducks. How exactly would you expect them to 'not allow' it? Ask the ducks for their room key?

Seriously though, they are more hygenic than all the kids who are probably peeing in the pool, coughing all over you in the lines and runny germy hands all over the handrails.

Ain't that the truth. I was at the Poly last week and the ducks just fly in from where ever and settle in. How do you stop birds from flying and landing in water? I saw a woman while I was walking back from the pool area get all up in a huff about it and was quite obnoxious. She made an horse's rear end out of herself to anyone who would listen. Disney nukes the pools with enough chemical to kill just about anything. In fact it's almost too strong for my taste. My eyes were burning when I dived underwater and opened them. I noticed a strong, chlorine type odor on the swim suits when hanging them up to dry. I never smelled it before in my previous 4 trips and always enjoyed the fact that Disney didn't use a chlorine type product. I guess they had no choice though and I would rather deal with the smell, than poor pool water quality.


I asked a nice CM in the Hawaii building and she told me Disney changed the pool chemicals to something much stronger due to "issues" they were having. Those were her exact words. They usually don't fly into the pool if it's crowded and are chased away by the kids. I don't know how Disney could stop birds from flying around the 47 square miles of WDW property?

I'm not sure how Disney is supposed to keep ducks out of the pools. Short of enclosing every single resort pool in a screened building, or stationing a CM at every pool, 24x7, to chase ducks.

Disney has to meet certain water quality standards for public swimming pools. I'm sure the chemicals keep the bacteria down to acceptable levels, regardess of whether those bacteria come from birds or humans.

It doesn't bother me at all. I like that Disney is good to animals. Duck germs are the last thing I would worry about, especially with the chemicals. When I stayed at the CR last March, I watched the CM's clean the pool out every morning ( from my balcony).

At the YC, they have a roped off area in the pool where the ducks 'hang'. It is right by the bar and snack stand so they get a lot of treats from little kids dropping things. It is actually quite amusing to watch, very peaceful.

When was the last time you saw a duck dropping floating in the pool? With the amount of CM's on hand, it gets cleaned up pretty quickly I am sure.

Last time we stayed at POP we saw a mother duck and her babies swimming in the pool in the morning. At the time a bunch of CM's were standing around the pool watching them swim. It looked like they were preparing to clean the pool for the day I am not sure how they got them out but they didn't seem to care that they were there, most people passing by including myself found it amusing.

I worry more about children peeing and doing other vile things than ducks. There are always ducks in the pool at Stormalong Bay and I've never had a problem with getting any infections or anything such as that. If you ask me, people are more disgusting than any animal.
