Can anyone help me decide which would be better to stay at for Christmas and New Years, either Best Western LBV or Pop Century. Are there any particular reasons why it's better to stay at Disney owned or would it even matter? The room prices are about the same either way. Thank you inadvance.:wave2:

I'd go with the outrageously campy Pop Century, mostly because it is brand new. That's always worth a look if for nothing more than the excitement of the CMs working there.

I prefer Disney resorts overall.

The DTD location is fine, but having stayed in a couple on that strip of Hotel Plaza Blvd. I can honestly say they are getting shabby and the staff is no where near and friendly, nor efficient as WDW CMs. Not horrid mind, just not Disney.

In my opinion, for Christmas I'd go with a Disney resort. For New Year's Eve, though, it may be a different story. If you're planning on doing the Pleasure Island thing for New Year's Eve, a DTD resort might be much more convenient, where you could just walk back to your room afterward instead of joining the mob scene waiting for the buses back to the Disney resorts. The Best Western, though, I believe is the last one down Hotel Plaza Blvd. from DTD, so it would be the furthest walk.

The Best Western LBV is a decent hotel. My mother stayed there just recently, and as a plain-jane hotel, it was adequate.

However, Pop Century throws in a whole mess of Disney Magic into the mix. It's a wonderfully decorated resort, that is sure to bring back memories and make you "remember when."

I will say that traffic exiting out of the parks on NYE will be horrendus. Disney will be running ALL of our buses, plus will be chartering out buses to help with the crowds.

One word of caution... last NYE, the Hotel Plaza buses were MIA at Epcot after 10pm... the poor guests were waiting for hours, until Disney stepped in, and had one of our buses take the guests home.

My personal recommendation is Pop Century. (But maybe I'm a bit biased!!) LOL

Do you know if they will have any entertainment at Pop Century for New Year's Eve? How about attending a party at the other resorts if not. A few years ago we went to the NYE party at POFQ and had a blast.

If the parks get full Disney resort guests are the very last to be shut out of closure. It is an important factor during the holidays, particularly on NYE.

Good point, I forgot about that!

During the busiest week of the year, I would definitely say stay on property, and Pop would be a lot of fun. The main reason is transportation. We stayed off-site Christmas week a few years ago. My most vivid memories are sitting in the car. In the parking lot, on the way into the park, etc. I also think Tyler will make sure that Pop Century is giving great bus service that week!;)

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I decided to go with Pop Century through Dreams Unlimited Travel. Can't wait to see that resort it sounds really teriffic. Thanks also to Tyler, for whom I have learned alot and who helped influence my decision to stay at PC. This will be a surprise vacation for my new wife. I'ts killing me to keep it a secret from her. She is wondering why I bought a Lime Green Lanyard. :teeth:
We will be arriving on Dec 22 and staying until Jan 4. Looking forward to meeting Tyler and to give thanks personally.
Thanks again to all the great DISer's out there, I'm really glad I found this site!!!!:wave2:
