I'm going to wdw in March with my wife and two teen daughters. I am looking for some "breathing room" so I booked a suite at the DTD Doubletree. Any feedback on your experiences would be great!

I also rented a car....Is this really necessary?

We stayed there last January and were hoping to repeat it this January, but the rate is double what we paid last year.

We stayed with 2 adults and 3 teens for almost a week. We had plenty of breathing room and two tv's. Fridge & Micro. They brought us another chair since the table only sat 4. We had the cold breakfast buffet every morning and it was excellent, lots of fresh fruit and a variety of breads, muffins, cereals, yougurt.... Pool is average and alittle loud with the highway behind it but wasn't really swimming time of year so that was okay. Maybe in a busier season it would be more "hopping" out there and we wouldn't have noticed. Ask for a room facing Downtown Disney (as opposed to pool view). We could see fireworks. Service was excellent. Rooms were recently renovated and the beds were the awesome Hilton beds. Lots of space for clothes as well.

You don't have to have a car.........but I would. It is the longest walk on the blvd to Downtown Disney. Girls may enjoy the shopping and hanging out there in off time. It will be worth it rather than tie yourself to transportation system.

We enjoyed our stay at Doubletree. The room was clean and offered plenty of room. We thought the pool area was nice, but you could hear the highway traffic. This DTD hotel is the furthest from DTD and is probably too far to walk for most people. However, it is very close to Crossroads which offers some good dining choices. With the exception of one trip, we always rent a car. We enjoy the freedom of being able to see more than just where the Disney buses will take you. It is also a much faster way of getting around. We have used the complimentary bus service offered by Doubletree and the other DTD hotels and have found it to be very efficient. The buses are also much more comfortable than the Disney buses. I doubt you will have any complaints unless you are not happy with having to walk a few hundred feet more than where the disney resort buses drop off.

A couple comments...

-- The walk to DTD is no more than 15-minutes, although it may be uncomfortable in extreme heat/humidity and/or rain. Thankfully, this shouldn't be a problem in March :).

-- Mears is operating the DTD transportation system right now. Not certain if they've acquired the contract or if the "normal" bus drivers are on strike... but those Mears busses aren't much more comfortable than the Disney busses.

I'm curious how old these people are that say the walk is soooo long from Double Tree to DTD. I am 53 and DH is 62. We have stayed at Double Tree twice now and also Best Western and Hotel Royal Plaza. The walk is very enjoyable. We like to walk down past the Hilton with the ponds out front and talk to the turtles. They are really cute.

In the mornings we walk to DTD and take a bus to a Disney hotel, walk around and pick up some Disney atmosphere and then get on another form of transportation to go to the park we want to go to that day.(i.e. boat or bus from Wilderness Lodge. Monorail from GF, Poly or Contemporary. Boat or walkway from Boardwalk, Beach or Yacht Clubs to EPCOT) This way we get a taste of the other parts of Disney besides the parks.

If we come back in the evening and are tired from walking around the parks we take a Disney bus to a Disney hotel and then take a bus to DTD and get the DTD Resort bus from the stop near McDonalds. (if you want to find out where this bus stop is, ride the DTD resort bus down to DTD in the evening and where they drop you off is where you will need to be to go back. There are 2 benches but no cover.) These DTD Resort buses only run in the evening on half-hour schedule.

--lots of space, friendly people, lobby area rather tired looking, but suite was clean fine. good value we thought. We would definitely return. Nice location for DtnD fun
--get a HiltonHonors membership (free hotel loyalty card) for added perks.
--sometimes mousesavers has discount rate for it or a rate that includes the hot breakfast
