DTD Bag Check In

Just been reading a post about checking luggage in at DTD.

How does this work and can anyone do it?

It would be a great idea for us and even if we had to pay $10 each it would be worth it.

We'll be flying with Virgin but not staying at a Disney resort, does that mean we wont be able to do it?

Any info much appreciated!

If you are with virgin hols it is free, flying only with virgin atlantic costs I think $10 each. Makes no difference where you are staying and works like normal check in, all passengers present with bags to be checked in, get your boarding card and then turn up at the airport later. Not sure about the time, 0830 to 1300 I think.

You don't have to stay at a disney resort to use it.
all you do is drive to dtd park up behind cirque de soleil in the car park and you will see a canopy and virgin staff there. just take your luggage over and stand in line! they are open from 8am -1pm. all people in your party must be present as you will be given your boarding passes there and they need to see all your passports. Your luggage is then put on a truck and all you then have to take to the airport will be your hand luggage!
using this facility gives you a few more hours free, as you don't have to be at the airport too early.

There's a mixed view on how good this is and the potential wait involved.
Best advice seems to be get there for or before opening, we used it in July and it took 10/15 minutes to complete everything.

My partner is disabled and requires a bulkhead seat. They usually assign this at check in at the airport. Does anyone know if this would be assigned at DTD? Do they assign your seats? Is it the whole check in process?

Yes it is the whole check in, you get your Boarding passes and go direct to the gate when you get to the airport.
We have done it twice 1st time got there at opening took 1 hour, 2nd time mid am about 30-40 mins. Others have said no wait. Its just turn up and hope, dont think there is a best time to go but we have only done it at end of school holidays so obviously busiest days of the year.
We have given up trying now, much prefer to do online checkin from hotel night before then go to bag drop at airport 2hours before flight, never waited more than 1 family in front of us.

We arrived before opening and waited about 30 - 40 minutes to get checked in. Had to go to the airport 4 hours before flight (Magical express bus) and found the queues there much shorter that the DTD check in! Cost us taxi fares from the hotel, $40 fee and a wasted couple of hours as we waited ages for a bus back to the resort. Wouldn't do it again, but it may work better if you have your own car.
