Last year, there was a little boy in DS's class that he really clicked with. They were seated next to each other on the pink carpet (where the teacher told stories, etc) and at their classroom table. They always played together during recess and sat next to each other at lunch. Over the summer, we had a few playdates with L and his little sister La. I hadn't had a chance to talk to L's mom a whole lot this year though, since L and DS are in different classes this year. Their classes still are all together before school starts and for recess, so DS and L were still hanging out as much as possible.

I talked to L's mom yesterday and her husband got laid off from his job (something in computers/video games..he worked for THQ). Unfortunately, the only place he could find that was hiring was in Nevada. :( He's scheduled to start in Jan, so L's family will probably be moving in late Jan or early Feb. :(

So I emailed L's mom and let her know we're available for playdates over Christmas break, but this is still making me sad. L is one of DS's best friends and now he's moving away.:sad1: I know when DS finds out he'll be really sad.

So how do I deal with this? I know that he's not even 5 yet and there WILL be other best friends. But it's still going to be hard for him, I think.

oh man, ive been there. Its hard. My mom would let call my freinds, send them postcards. One last extra special playdate is a good idea, take lot of pitcures and then allow your son to make two photo books, one for him and one for his freind. Its worse at 5. I mean its so hard not to loose your freinds. Keep first and last names for friends. I wish my mom had. We moved almost every year when I was little so I never really had a good best friend.

If both sets of parents are willing, they can be "email buddies." With the use of digital cameras and the internet, you can easily take pictures of the your son doing whatever he wants and then email it to his friend using your email address.

Some pictures might include the friend's new room or school, pictures of things they created, forts, towers, weekend activities, silly faces, whatever the boys can think of. While it probably won't maintain the relationship that they currently have, it may help in the transition for both of them.

That's a good idea. I hadn't thought of that Forevryoung. :) THanks. I'll talk to L's mom about it.
