DSLR while on Rides

What does everyone do with their DSLR while they are riding rides at disney? What rides can you take your camera's on, and what rides are they not allowed. Everyone in our group is planning on riding every ride, so I'm nervous about taking my larger camera this trip.

I carry my camera on every ride, in our backpack (unless I'm using it on the ride, but I don't do that much with my DLSR, I use a P&S for that). I just loop the strap of the backpack around my ankle, mainly so I don't forget it. For Splash and KRR, we put the whole backpack in an XL Ziplok that we carry with us.

The only rides for which I put my DSLR away are Splash Mountain and Rock N Roller Coaster. On everything else, it's easy to hold it.

I put it in my backpack and wrap the strap around my ankle. There's plenty of room to hold it that way securely. On Kali River Rapids, I put it away too. There is a holding bin in the center of the boat for storage.

I usually either carry mine with the strap wrapped around my wrist, or put it in my backpack and hold the backpack between my feet if it doesn't fit in the storage nets.

I had a hood come loose on Tower of Terror in December. I watched it float right up past my face and tried to pluck it from the air, but missed. Luckily for me the woman next to me had it waiting at the end of the ride and I was able to claim it. Luckily for her it was just a hood and not the camera with lens attached. I don't think I would have gotten such a warm reception at the end of the ride otherwise.

To answer the OP's question, I had my camera out with me on every ride during our trip in December. The only one I didn't try to take a photo during was Rock N' Rollercoaster because I hadn't been on in about 6 years and wasn't sure what to expect.

I carry mine on every ride as well, with my new R-7 I place it with the lens between my legs still attached to the strap when possible. When I was using a normal neck strap I would wrap the strap around my wrist to keep the camera stable.

The only problem I have is on the Haunted Mansion. For some reason I always catch my lens hood on the bar when it swings down...

Like everyone else it's out on the ride with me. My bag is always on the floor tucked between my feet with the strap around my ankle.

Cameras on rollercoaster are dangerous! The camera could slip out of you hand and smash someone in the face behind you.

I was on Dueling Dragons at Universal when the ride suddenly stopped going up the first lift hill. An attendant climbed the stairs and removed a camera from someone attempting to take a picture.

Would you like to be hit in the face by a dSLR?

Not dismissing this thought but I suddenly remembered the pictures of Fabio when he got hit by a bird on a roller coaster!

Universal seems to be more strict about allowing you to hold a camera on a ride. I was told to place the camera away half way thru riding Jurassic Park. I believe the signs only say no flash photography. That's also probably why they have the lockers to use there. (which BTW are a total PITB!)

I'm afraid I'm the one most likey to hit myself in the face when I'm shooting and on a roller coaster! The BIG coasters I don't even get on. Little wussy ones at Disney like Big Thunder Mountain I have no problems with riding with my camera out. RNRC it stays in the bag. aside from the water, I'd have it out on Splash too - maybe my dive camera for that one!

I carry mine on with me. When we went last time, DH and I only went on the RnR and ToT when the kids were with a sitter during EMH at night. I had a small backpack with a baby blanket wrapped around the camera for light protection. I took the backpack and stuck my leg through both straps and then tightly strapped the whole thing to my thigh. I had 1 hand on it on RnR and it didn't budge. It also didn't move on ToT, but I didn't have my hand on it since I was busy keeping my body from floating away.
