DSLR while in Disney

My husband just bought me the Canon Rebel T1i for my bday and we are going to Disney the first week in November and I want to bring the camera to use for all my pics. I am wondering what everyone else does with theirs carrying them around the parks, while on rides esp wet ones like Kali. And any tips or advice you might have.

I'd just say to get a nice bag. Your camera might be out of the bag A LOT, but in case you ever just wanna stash it away for whatever reason, you can. Plus, you can probably throw other stuff in there too (snacks, ponchos, etc...). Some people carry theirs around all day, with no bag. I personally wouldn't trust what might happen on a coaster or something though.

For kali, I put mine in the bag and got a big bag from one of the shops and put it in that bag and then in the center section, no problems. For Splash as we went go up the big climb at the end I put a plastic bag over my hand that has my camera in it. Other than that, the camera is simply either in the bag or in my hand. I used to just wrap the strap around my hand as a wrist strap.

But, I bought a black rapid strap since the last time I took my camera into one of the parks so next time It will be either in my hand or hanging near my back.

Even though your camera might be out a lot you will want a bag. The bag I take (to Disneyland ) depends on how much I want to carry. If I just want a Body & lens + another lens I'll take my Crumpler 5 Million Dollar Home. If I want a few more lenses with me or more gear (like mono or tripod) I take the Lowepro 202AW.

Yes definately bring it with you. I went back and forth on our last trip and am so glad I brought my Nikon D50. (I just got the D90 so I am bringing it this trip)

I used the tamarac model #519. I loved this bag. I carry two lenses and the base. I also was able to put in the manual along with 8 cards and an extra battery. The part I love about this bag is that it goes across your body and you can adjust the strap. When you open the bag you can continue walking - take a picture and put the camera back in the bag without having to put the bag on something. Hope I am explaining it correctly. I believe you can also connect things to this bag with the Modular accessory system to suit your needs. I was going to get the water bottle attachment, but instead I bought one of those carabiner things from walmart for $1. (it is a metal thing that connects to your water bottle and has one of those clips on the ends like people use for rock climbing). I also got one of those HUGE ziplock bags (Dollar Tree there are 3to 4 in a bag) and folded neatly and put inside for those wet rides or rain.

My suggestion... Go to a good camera store with you camera. Ask them to help you find something. It is totally worth it to find a great bag. I literally bring it with me everywhere now. I prefer to carry that over my purse.

Thanks so much everyone. That's exactly what I was thinking I just wanted to make sure I was being realistic. And I love the Splash pic! I don't think I would trust trying that one though lol but love it!

I carry a backpack camera bag. I find it more comfortable for the entire day of carrying a heavier camera.

I have a camera backpack. There is enough room inside to put the little estra things you might carry in the park. I even will wrap a fanny pack around it to put in any lotion or stuff like that so no liquid stuff will be near my camera or accessories.

What I really like about this bag is the top access to the camera and that you can put it away with a longer lens on it.

I even bought a Dry Bag similar to the one below. It rolls up very small and I keep it in my camera back pack. If it starts to rain or I go on a water ride, I take it out and slip the entire camera bag into the Dry Bag.

I am getting a new lens and 2 cases (one for the new lens and one for my 55-300 lens) tomorrow and may be in the market for another backpack. I will decide after my July Disney trip. But this pack will be on my short list if I do buy another

I bought it on the recommendation of THIS BOARD! I started with a Lowepro Sling and quickly returned it. It kept digging into my neck. I think my shoulders are too rounded for a sling type bag.

I am also very short and several other shorter gals on here said this was the bag they preferred. It was def. a good call and I am very happy with it.

I took it to a local camera shop with me to get some camera equipment and when I opened the bag everyone in the store, customers and salesfolks, all gathered around and asked about it and liked it and wanted to touch and feel it.

So, just saying that I am SOLD on this bag.....AND the nice thing is that there is room up top for other things.....so I keep my wallet, solid roll on sunscreen (too scared to put liquid in there!), sunglasses, and sealed snacks.

Can you tell I LOVE this bag?

I always take my DSLR when i visit disneyland - but i also make it a point to avoid any overly dangerous rides or wet rides. I have a very good case that I can put the camera in to shield it otherwise.

My only advice would be to make wrap the camera strap around your hand rather than your neck to avoid neck strain.

Any recommendations on a single lens bag?

Great shot Bob! I really wanted this shot of my own on our recent trip but failed miserable. Oh well, I got drenched, but at least the camera stayed dry. I think I'll worry less about the camera and try again next time!

Glad this question was asked....I was wondering the same!

I bought a handmade fabric strap cover to go over my SLR camera strap, so it would cause less strain on my neck. Other then that, I have a backpack type camera bag that I will carry, or put in my stroller.

I can not wait to snap pictures at Disney next week!!

Thanks for the recommendation. I plan to have either a 12-24 or 18-55 attached and bring a prime.

Crumpler makes a lot of good products, all of which vary on your degree of equipment. I like them b/c they do not look like camera bags very much. (kind of looks like a big purse/man satchel.)

If you only have the one body and a single lens and don't want to carry a bag, at least take a large ziploc bag with you to put the camera in for the water rides.

I don't have a dSLR, but a superzoom. Though not as big (or expensive) it was on my shoulder/in my hand at all times. I wouldn't want to carry a bag with a dSLR unless I had different lenses to carry. If you carry a bag, now you have a bag and a camera hanging on your neck/shoulder.
