Taking my DSLR along with me to the park in December. I have a heavy duty Manfrotto 680 monopod that I used to stabilize my camera when taking night shots (Parades and Fireworks). Is this going to be considered as a "selfie stick" or do you think I will be OK with it.

I think a monopod is okay. A monopod is used with the base on the ground.
The selfie sticks are an extension of the hand and arm out into the air.

Tripods are still fine. But they reserve the right to exclude "large" tripods. They are fine with travel size tripods, the sort that will fit into a backpack.

Unfortunately that means you will have some uncertainty as you approach the gates with a medium sized tripod. I imagine you'll be fine though.

The basic rule is that any monopod or tripod should be able to collapse into a standard sized backpack.

https://disneyland.disney.go.com/faq/parks/permitted-items/

Folding tripod stands or monopod stands that can fit inside a standard backpack are permitted.

Equipment used for unauthorized photography, videotaping, recording, broadcast or transmission of any kind for commercial purposes is not allowed. Professional photographers with professional cameras or recording equipment, who are visiting the Disneyland Resort with the intent to take photographs or recordings of people, Disneyland Resort properties, or icons for professional purposes must request permission and make prior arrangements with appropriate Disneyland Resort representatives. Permission for any recordings or broadcasts on the premises are within the sole discretion of Disney.

Also - you could be told to stop if your photography is considered disruptive. So doing something like setting it up on the bridge of Sleeping Beauty's Castle would probably not be taken very well.

Thanks for the info. I always used the monopod as a support in front of me, never to block or obstruct others view. I use a long lens, and that sucker gets heavy after a while.

The Manfrotto 680 shouldn't be a problem, but the 681 likely is ... that's my normal one for car trips (I have a 3LT travel monopod for flying) and the thing is basically a baseball bat even collapsed.

I would take any head off though, and carry it separately (I'm assuming you use a 234 or 234RC2?). A ball or tilt head might raise the flag as a selfie stick, but without one attached a monopod is pretty well useless as a selfie stick. :)

There's also a limit on lens size that was adopted after some paparazzi followed a celeb into the parking structure, some incident in the park and some private event they were trying to keep under wraps at the time. It was supposed to be 6 inches but that may have relaxed a little in the last few years because many DSLR zoom lens are about that long. I would expect them to stop anyone trying to enter with a telephoto lens, though.

70-200 f/2.8's are pretty commonly seen there, but you're right that that's probably the upper limit in size. 80-400/100-400 would probably be OK as well, as is a 300 f/4, but that'd probably be it for collared lenses. No exotics. :)

for paint the night...given the crowds...there may not be enough room for even a monopod.

spots far back enough where a 70-200 or longer lens would make sense are likely to require a very tall tripod (i.e. bigger than what disney would likely allow) to get a decent view.

the 2nd parade (if there is one in december) would have enough space for a monopod. and might have some spots where setting up for a longer lens could be done, but the fireworks...eventually it should get to a point where the crowds would allow for it, but that may not happen until 2016.
