I have broadband right now, but I noticed that Verizon in my area is offering DSL for a pretty cheap price. If I switched it would save us about $40. a month.

What is the difference in them as far as speed, connection, etc. I love my cable modem and certainly do not want to go "backwards".

Thanks!

we just switched from comcast broadband to verizon DSL last month. I do find that it is very slightly slower than the comcast, but not enough to be a problem for me. I did not get the $14.95 DSL though....we have the $29.95 per month package. I called to inquire about the $14.95 package and she said it would be slower than what I have now, but 10 times faster than dial up so I left everything the same. We were going to be losing our bundle discount with comcast, so by switching to verizon, we were able to keep our monthly payments about the same (give or take a few $$). I would love to go to the $14.95 per month deal, but I am wary of going backwards too.

DSL is broadband ;)

DSL vs. cable, of course, is what you meant. Cable tends to be a bit faster than DSL, though it depends on a number of factors (not the least of which is distance from telephone exchange). Do you know what speed you're currently getting on cable?

The $29.95 Verizon package is probably similar in speed to cable (3-4 Mbps). The $14.95 package is 768 Kbps, which would be considerably slower.

I get fiber optic internet through Verizon for $35/month at 5.25 Mbps -- faster and cheaper than the cable connection I had. But not all areas have that available since it requires fiber optic cables.
