DD is trying to convince me she "needs" a DSi as her old DS keeps freezing

Forgive me if it's a daft question but can you go online with the DSi to access FaceBook, DIS etc or is it just for gaming?
Trying to justify the spend and wondering whether it would solve the dilemma of whether to take the LapTop away with us........

I'm pretty sure you can access the internet as normal on it. All you have to do is download the free browser on the dsi itself through the store it has to purchase games etc, kinda like the wii, ps3 and xbox360
