DS will be 10 and a Disney adult....

We are going down in December and my son will turn 10 in November. I have no problem paying for him as an adult and I'm sure he will appreciate the adult meals in most circumstances.

My question is if he does not want an adult meal will he be allowed to order from the kids menu and we'll just pay OOP for it even though most of the menus state for 9 and under?

yes if you pay oop because I dont think they will ask his age. They never asked my how old DD was(she was 10 and ordered off the kids menu) HTH!

I left out one more thing! Part of the reason is to celebrate his turning 10. Should I leave the celebrations off the reservation?

No you can put it on your room ressie, they may give him a pin to wear too. I dont think I would wear it or mention hes turning 10 when he orders off the kids menu. Just a suggestion Dont worry though. the worst they could say is no and I dont think they would do that. Just enjoy your vacation and your son turning 10

Even if they know he's 10, some restaurants (especially the Disney-owned ones) will allow him to order off the kids menu, and they'll bring him an adult-sized portion instead of the kids size portion.

We had a rather picky 18 yr old travel with us a couple of years ago and she ordered the kids meal chicken strips at one of the table service places...they laughed & brought her about 8 of them, along with heaping veggies. We were on the regular dining plan, and they just rang her meal up as an adult meal credit. They did let her order off the adult dessert menu.

And of course if you're eating at buffets, he can choose food off the adult section or the kids section...or both.

Thanks! My TA sort of suggested putting him down as 9 but with it being partially his celebration I thought it would be weird. Plus I think he may enjoy more choices.

Do keep in mind, too,that most restaurants at Disney will be flexible about adapting any entrees he might like if they were plainer...for example, the teriyaki steak at Kona Cafe: you can order the steak and ask for them to leave the sauce off (one in our party did just that because she didn't like pineapple, which the steak topping had. She was delivered a plain steak, cooked med just as she ordered.) So if you son sees something on the adult menu he might want, but is concerned about a sauce or seasoning, just ask for options on the food.

In Feb, we had the free dining plan. DS10 ordered a kids meal at Le Cellier, Le Chefs, Raglan Road, Yak n yeti ,that I remember...could be more. We had adr's for 4 adults. We were seated as 4 adults. When the waiter/waitress came over to the table, I would ask for a kids meal menu for him. When it came time to pay, I asked them to only use 3 credits and put the kids meals on the OOP portion of the bill. It was never a problem at all!
