DS lite right hinge broken

I purchased both of my sons a DS lite for christmas. Well on one of them the right hinge broke completly off and now the top screen will not work. He did not handle the Ds harshly in fact when it is not in use it has a nice cushy place to lay down in. Well when I first contacted Nintendo they were going to charge me $50 to fix it. then i was talking to one of my friends who said the same thing happened to her sons DS and they fixed it for free. She told me to google it and you will see how many people this has effected. well after all of this I contacted Nintendo again and told them that this was a defect and that they should cover it. they finally agreed. so, in case this happens to yours, you know what to do.

DS4's NDS had problems with the top screen (not the hinges, but the screen itself). It wouldn't show the pictures correctly and it was so faded that he couldng play Super Mario, or any game, on it. I called Nintendo and they sent the UPS pre-paid sticker to send it back to be fixed. Didn't cost us anything .

I figured the screen went b/c he had a habit of dropping it. I assumed he finally jarred something loose. Didn't mention it to Nintendo though when I called. It's working fine now.

Is this with just DS lite or the regular ones as well? I've got to get one of my daughter's gameboys fixed.

I am surprised that you had problems with Nintendo.
DS had a problem with his, backscreen didn't work, I called them and they explained that they have a program whereby they will send you a refurbished one within 2 weeks, if you agree to send the original one back so that they can see what the problem is. They even pay for courier charges.
If you send it in for a repair they will charge you a fee if it is a case of human error, such as the unit being dropped, if you choose to have a refurbished, there are no questions asked, and no fees.

We talked to nintendo and they wanted us to pay $50.00 to fix it , we said we checked other sites and after about 15 minutes of talking .they are fixing it for free.Thanks !!

They never offered to send us a refubished one. They just said send in the one we have and if they can fix it they will, and if not they would send us a new one. I would not mind paying the $50 if I felt like it was something my son did to cause it. In fact we are loyal Nintendo users. we have a gamecube, a gameboy advance and 2 Ds lites.

Ahh the old case of don't ask don't tell. They count on people calling them and paying $50 to get this fixed. And lots probably do.

But those that know about the special deals get them and get a refurbed DS in replacement.

OMG!!!!! Just yesterday, the right hinge on my son's ds lite also broke. This is too weird!! I guess I will be calling Nintendo tomorrow.
