I am so proud of my DS and the grades he has brought home this year. Last year he was diagnoised with Auditory Processing Disorder and he was struggling through 5th grade. We placed him in a program called "PACE" Processing and Cognitive Enhancement - Along with his Pace program and his 6th grade teachers he has made the transition to middle school and 6th grade a breeze!! He is doing so well and I credit him with the hard work he has done and his teachers williness to listen and help him and me whenever he needs it. He went from C's and D's in 5th grade to A's and B's this year!!! He went from "I hate School and I am so dumb" to " I really like school and I am smart!!" I hope that he will be able to continue with his improvements since he sees that it is possible to make good grades and that he is smart. We realize how lucky we are to have gotten some really great teachers this year.

I want to show each of his teachers my appreciation for helping him reach his potiental this year. Any ideas? I was thinking a thank you card with a gift certificate to somewhere like a coffee shop or blockbuster or something. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

i love my DS teacher too! she is wonderful and really trying to help him work through his issues.

how about a gift certificate to a parent/teacher store? one thing i learnded when i was room mom was that the teachers have to purchase all those posters and things hung up in their rooms for the kids. it is very expensive to be a teacher.

I'm so happy for you and your son. Having a supportive team of teachers is so important when it comes to the success of our kids. I think a thank you note will be the thing that's most appreciated.

Your son rocks! My 19 yo DD struggled all through school with auditory processing problems and it's a rough road. Unfortunately my DD hated school so your son's turn around will make it that much easier for him.

I would write the teacher a note and give a copy to the principal. It often goes in the teachers folders and are looked at if they apply for another position. I would also get a nice gift certificate to a restaurant or the movies. The special ed.teachers really work hard to get improvement from their students (not that other teachers don't) and a nice relaxing evening would definitely be appreciated!

Thanks everyone - we will definately be writting out some Thank you cards for each teacher with a little something special in it. He has 6 different teachers so it won't be a big thing for each but a little something to show our appreciation.

LBAK -Have you read "When the Brain Can't Hear?" about APD? It is a great book about APD. I'm sorry to hear that your DD had a hard time through school. I had never heard of APD until DS was diagnoised - I truely hope that he can continue to enjoy school and make the best of it. Believe it or not our school district and state do not recognize Auditory Processing Disorder as a learning disability. DS is in regular classes and I have just had to have meetings with each of of teachers to let them know of his APD and they have been great to help him with any extra explanations if he misses anything in their classes. His teachers are definately enthusiastic about helping him do his best.

Wow - had this post been titled DS teachers stink it would have received more attention - but since his teachers are wonderful it seems to get passed by :confused3 So i guess I will bump it to the top for more ideas for teacher gifts :teeth:
