My 3 year old ds was fine when he woke up this morning. We went for our walk like we usually do and he ate maybe half of his breakfast. I gave him a bath a little later on and he started saying he was "freezing". Well, our house is not air conditioned or anything so I thought this was wierd. I had him get out of the tub and he was burning up with fever.

I took his temp. and it was 102.4. He was shivering like crazy so I gave him a blanket and a dose of Tylenol that he vomited on the floor as soon as it went down. It has been so long since he was sick and I don't remember him ever getting a fever that high unless he had an ear infection as an infant.

I waited about 15 minutes and gave him some Tylenol Cold since he said his head hurt. I also had him start sipping ice water to keep him hydrated. He finally nodded off on the couch (this is a kid who NEVER naps, so if he's sleeping at 1:30 in the afternoon he's gotta be sick). Is there anything else I should be doing for him? I just hate seeing him feel bad :( .

There is some type of virus going around.

DD came down with a fever (102.6) out of the blue Friday night just before bedtime. She also said her head hurt. I gave her Motrin and she finally fell asleep. The fever lasted until Sunday late morning. I just kept up the Motrin and offered ice pops, soup and lemonade (all she'd take). Her headache was gone when she woke up Saturday and she didn't have any other symptoms so we didn't call the dr over the weekend. I expected to be taking her in Monday but as quickly as this came on it left. I asked her pre-school teacher about any illness and 2 other kids had it over the weekend as well. Also some friends kids have it now.

If he still has a fever in the morning it wouldn't hurt to call your dr and see what they think.

Hope your little guy feels better soon.

I work in a pediatric office, and we have noticed a virus going around lately. It's nothing serious, just something that kids are getting.

I think you're doing fine, giving him Tylenol and lots of fluids is good advice. Sometimes alternating Motrin and Tylenol helps also, I do this for my daughter when she has a stubborn fever. (Please consult your doctor first, of course.) If the fever gets to 104-105 then it is serious. at 107 brain damage will start to occur. And if he's had a fever for more than 48 hours, it's good to tell your doctor and probably make an appointment.

If you have any worries at all, or the slightest bit doubtful of what you should do ALWAYS call your doctor.

I hope your little one feels better soon!

Thanks everyone. I went and checked him while he is sleeping and he feels cooler to the touch. I called my friend who I babysit for and told her she probably wants to send her son elsewhere at least for today. She is also trying to line someone else up for tomorrow just in case. I'll be giving the doctor a call if the fever goes any higher or anything changes.

My DS (11) is also sick with a fever, headache and body aches, it started yesterday. I hate to see him like this, he doesn't get sick often. My neighbor and her DD are also sick. I guess something must be going around.

We were scheduled to leave for Orlando this Friday, but we decided to postpone the trip. I wonder how long it will be before the younger ones get this...:(

Hope your DS feels better soon.:D

Same here! DD woke this morning and said her head hurt. When I felt her head it was burning. Took her to my Moms where things got worse.

Mom said she had a 103 fever. Took her to the walk in (primary didn't have hours today and covering DR was "Booked"???)
Walk in said because of her history with strep they were going to put her on Ammoxicillian.

I alternated every 4 hrs. between Motrin and Tylenol. Also giving her warm baths seem to do the trick. She just got out of the tub and said she was hungry. Good Sign.

Hope he feels better soon,
Lisa

this isnt just a kid thing. I had a fever yesterday and had really bad body aches. My chest hurt really bad to the point I almost called the hospital. It slowed after that and today I feel a lot better but still have some pain and a slight fever.

Not good that others have it but glad to know it wasnt as bad as I thought it was in the middle of the night. ( things are always 100% worse in the middle of the night you know?)

Hope everyone is feeling better really soon!
