Okay, I'm now going to pack. DS (13) has been sick for 3 days but feels better today. I think we are going tomorrow as planned. I only pray his ears don't kill him on the plane. Lots and lots to do today and I am so excited to be going to WDW tomorrow! Keep your fingers crossed!

I feel for you. I know it is tough when kids are sick. My dd is 6 and is on her 2nd round of antibiotics for an ear infection. She has a horrible cough. She feels fine, just sounds horrible. We fly out for Disney on Saturday. I am fearful of ear pain on the plane too. Good luck to you.

to both of you. I hope your children feel better and have no probelms on the plane. We leave 11/25 and taking my 4 1/2 year old nephew who has had a cough on and off for two weeks - no fever - just a cough and runny nose, it comes and goes, the weather here in NY does not help, nice one day cool the next. I am hoping he does not come down with anything more serious. Have a great time at WDW.

Buy EarPlanes for kids. They really do help and reduce the noise so there is less chance of hearing loss later in life. They have these in most CVS stores.

Thanks guys! My kids always use the earplanes when we fly. The DS who has been sick has had problems even without being sick so that is one reason I'm worried. We have sudafed, nasal spray, water to swallow, gum, mints, benadryll and 2 washclothes which if it gets really bad the flight attendants put very warm water on and he holds over his ears. They typically bother him the last 30-40 minutes of the flight.

Well it sounds like you have all the bases covered. Now here's a little pixie dust to keeps things going smooth. :wizard: :wizard:

Just a small warning, I flew with the ends of an ear infection when I was about 19 and to this day I remember how horrible the flight was. I felt fine going, never thought I'd have a problem, but the headaches and pain I felt on that flight was unforgettable and extremely painful.

You might want to check with your childs doctor before flying, just to be on the safe side.

Good luck and have a great time!

I am a doctoral student in audiology and I have heard of eardrums rupturing or individuals having a lot of pain in their ears because they have fluid or a lot of negative pressure behind their ears when they are on an airplane. The mechanism (eustachian tube) that keeps your middle ear (part behind your eardrum) equal with atmospheric pressure is not working correctly when you have fluid or a lot of negative pressure in your middle ear. This can cause the eardrum to rupture because it can not maintain the correct pressure. I dont want to alarm you, but I also dont want your trip to start off on a bad note because of the airplane ride. It would be best to see a doctor just to make sure everything is okay.
