Well, now he has Severe's with the right heel too. This time last year he was diagnoised with this on the left foot.

And of course, since he's grown so much this year, another new pair of ortho-inserts for his shoes. At this rate, he's going to break me. Insurance doesn't cover those. I ordered a pair last year and now he needs a new pair. At a $185.00 a pop, and there's not anything I can do with the old pair! :guilty:

And this could last until he's finished growing! He's only 10. :sad2:

Did the ortho inserts help when he was diagnosed last year? My son (11) has it bilaterally. Stretching and Motrin help, but he isn't good about being faithful with the stretching and he prefers flat skateboarding sneakers and I'm having a hard time getting him to switch over to a more supportive running sneaker. My pediatrician suggested over the counter "heel gel cups" but he couldn't stand them in his shoes. I think he'd balk at the expensive ortho ones as well.

I think they helped somewhat. His heels still bother him if he over does it. I think between the major growth spurts (the Dr. was amazed at how much his feet grew in a year) and favoring the left heel aggravated the right.

My son gets extremely upset over his inserts. If one falls out and he doesn't think about it until after gone from the house, he almost goes into a panic. He barely will wear flip flops because they are not in there, but pulls his shoes off as soon as he gets home and goes around the house barefoot. :confused3 Last year, after geting the inserts, he kicked a football and the entire shoe flew off (with the insert inside) and landed on the school roof, the poor kid had a major meltdown. My sister got the maintenance man to get them down.

Put the Doctor keeps telling him to ice it and Advil too, but my son doesn't like following those instructions, I nearly have to push the pills down his throat if he says his feet hurt. The ice he'll leave on for about 2 minutes and he thinks he's done enough. :furious: But he doesn't wear the more expensive sneakers and the doctor is fine with that.
