DS14 has been doing his own laundry for years without event, so I guess I can't be too mad...

He sent a pair of pants through the washer and dryer with a pack of gum and a pen in them. The washer is fine. The dryer (only a couple months old) has black ink EVERYWHERE. Apparently, the gum stuck to the pants it was in and that's it.

I just threw a wet towel in the dryer to see if it will absorb the ink.

Any ideas on how to clean it, or is it okay to just use as is?

See if you can find some Goo-Gone at Walmart or similar store. It is a petroleum based cleaner that should take the ink off. Just be sure to wipe down the dryer well when you are done.

I've had a similar thing happen, numerous times. Believe me, the inside of my dryer isn't pretty.

Wash some rags to make certaint that nothing is coming off. Usually the stuff is baked on. If they come out okay, then that's good enough. But if it really bothers you, I think there is a product out now specifically made for cleaning the inside of your dryer. I just don't know what it's called. Sorry.

I think the new Mr Clean magic eraser might get it off

Have you tried hairspray? That will almost always remove ink, although if it's been "baked on", you might have a problem. If that's the case, I'd call the manufacturer to see what they suggest. Good luck!

I'll second Goo Gone and hairspray. Hairspray has always worked for me, but it takes a little more elbow grease.

Put those 14 year old muscles to work! :rotfl2: Sorry for laughing, but BTDT many times.

It's been quite a morning -- first discovered the dryer, second lost electric, third lost cable. Everything is back up and running now.

Dryer seems fine -- ugly, but fine. I'm not worried about how it looks as long as nothing transfers to the clothes.

Thanks for the advice!

ink happened to me a while ago.

Lots of rubbing alchol (?) and LOTS of Rubbing. I airred the dryer out for a few days to get rid of the smell before I used it again.

Good Luck!!!
