Hey all. After a long summer in the south, my feet are showing wear and tear! What budget-friendly thing do you use on your tootsies to get them soft and smooth?

Honestly, one CHEAP, FABULOUS tip I can give you is to cover your tootsies in VASELINE every single night before bed and cover with clean white socks!!!

YOU WILL BE AMAZED!!!!!!! :thumbsup2:

You have to exfoliate first - before anything will "heal". Otherwise it's pointless to slather on any cream, b/c it's not reaching the layer of skin to treat.. the rough epidermis is soaking up all the moisture. So, first make yourself up a scrub - and use a pumice stone to help exfoliate the rough patches..
Here is a simple scrub recipe:
1 cup Raw Sugar (or refined)
1/2 cup olive oil (or palm, rice bran, etc)
if you have access, get some peppermint essential oil, it is great for feet, and put a couple drops in.

Also, shea butter is a great moisturizer, and it isn't expensive (well, it doesn't have to be!) If you need help finding PURE shea butter, pm me. :)

I guess the former nail tech in me is coming out! LOL ;)

You could start with a Pedicure - my local salon charges $28 for both manicure and pedicure. That way they can slough off all of the dead skin, etc... giving you smooth feet again - so you can start from there with the nighttime treatment to keep them smooth. Not to mention that you get your nails polished which is pretty cool too!

I always thought a pedicure was not for me - but now I go every couple month (8 weeks or so) Definitely a treat - and I love it!

I am a ding dong when it comes the pumice stone- do you use it with the scrub, or after you scrub with the sugar/oil mix? I have just been using the stone by itself (funny aside-it is shaped like a bar of soap, so my DH grabbed it and rubbed it between his hands- ouch, but I had to make fun of him for using MY bath stuff!!!-get yer grubby paws off my stuff)

I love the Burts Bees foot creme- it smells good, and it makes your feet really soft. I use that after I have used the pumice stone by itself-you have to put socks over it because it is greasy. But I still get pretty nasty calluses on my heels- which I think is from all my sandals flopping against them all summer.

LOL that is too funny!! :lmao: I use it WITH my scrub.. if it is for tough areas. If your feet are too sensitive, you can use one or the other.. but for the ultimate calluses or heels, you can definately use them together. :)

I have dry skin so I'm pretty maniacal about moisturizing my skin, from head to toe, during the day. I also try to give myself weekly pedicures at home. As a result, I don't normally have a problem with dry, rough feet. However, but when I do, I use a pumice stone every time I shower, which is at least twice daily because it's so hot here. If I'm wearing sandals I'll moisturize with my normal lotion (usually Palmer's Cocoa Butter lotion) If I'm going to be wearing sneakers, I'll apply petroleum jelly before I don my socks. The socks & Vaseline thing works at night too, if you are one of those people who can actually stand to sleep in socks! I start off very ambitiously and then kick them off in my sleep!

I live near the beach and I recently made a "big" discovery. I can exfoliate my feet and exercise at the same time, just by walking barefoot on the beach. I apply a little olive oil or vaseline to my heels and walk along the water's edge! Much cheaper than paying for a pedicure!!

You can get a decent pumice stone for $2 at walmart. It's the biggest thing to get rid of the rough skin. Just use it in the bath or shower every night until your feet are smooth, then just once a week. Then use a rich moisturizing cream on your feet and they'll be nice and soft!

Aquaphor...like a vaseline, only for me it works better. You can find it at Walmart in jar or tube. I love it for my lips too...works overnight, seriously!
Our pediatrician is who told me about it years ago when DS was suffering from excema as a baby and it worked wonders!

.... 1.use a pumace stone (or my sister likes to use steel wool pads :confused3 ) 2. glob on alot of Vasaline. 3. put plastic grocery bags on you feet. 4 put on the thickest socks you can find.

I use the pumace stone about twice a week and I do the entire procedure once every couple of weeks at bedtime and I have never had any real problems with dry-cracked feet.

I get a spa pedicure once a month for $25 plus tip. It is $20 for regular. I then slather vaseline on every night and socks, recommended by my pedicurist. :thumbsup2

I just went to an Airbonne party and did thier peppermint foot scrub with the cream after, and it is worth any price!
