I was given a very pretty comforter set and it is dry clean only. It has a smell, not a bad smell, just a smell I don;t like. I was wondering if there was something I could use on it with out having to take it to the cleaners as I lost my job and don't really have the money. I really like this set it is perfect for the color of my room. Thanks :goodvibes

so there is nothing I can use?? oh man I didn't want to take it to the cleaners so bummed :sad1:

Well you could try spraying it with Febreeze or dry cleaning it yourself with Dryel (it just wouldn't fit in the bag provided).

I second the recommendation for Febreze, I use it all the time & hang it outside too if you can...it works great!

Thanks, I did the febreeze but that didn't work as well as I hoped but hanging it outside could really work...:goodvibes

What is the fabric? Most bedding (comforters anyway) will say dry clean only, but I've been washing & drying mine at home forever, as needed. If the fabric is washer/dryer safe I'd wash it in cool or warm water (not hot) with lots of fabric softener (a good smelling one!) and then dry on low with a fabric sheet or hang out to dry.

Mine says dry clean only too but once I got the $70 price to dry clean I put it in the washer and dryer and it's fine. A bit faded but still okay!!

If you can fit it in a clothes dryer, at home or at a laundromat, tumble WITHOUT heat with a dryer sheet (or two or three depending on the size). I tumble my dry-clean-only drapes to freshen them and remove dust and pet hair that clings and won't vacuum off.

it is 100% polyester. Is that ok to put in the washer??

ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You could even do that on hot, no chance of shrinking - unless it has some type of decorative fabric as well, beading, etc.

Thanks, the only thing I can foresee is that it may not fit in my washer. it is a king!! :goodvibes
