Drunks in the parks

Another Disney site has a discussion about the increase in drunks at EPCOT. Has anyone noticed this and if it is true way doesn't security escort them out.

I know someone who has a brother working in security and knows that every inch of the parks are covered with cameras. You would think with coordination these drunks could be identified.

Also with the escort out a free one night accomodation should be included for their safety. Like in jail. Hopefully the message then will get out. Enjoy a beer but don't cross the line.

I spend a lot of time in Epcot, and almost always till it closes, and I don't recall seeing any drunks. Maybe it's because I'm not there during "party" times like spring break or New Years.

I don't like the high prices WDW charges for beer & other alcoholic beverages, but I always thought if there was a silver lining to the high prices, it was that it discouraged excess drinking.

I was thinking about that too as I haven't seen any.

Maybe that guy hit the lotto of drunks that day. You know, How many times do you pick the right numbers. He may just happen to be there when a group was there.

The park is not "covered" with cameras. There are actually very few. I have had very few experiences with drunks. And if a guest or cast member sees a drunk and doesnt report it to security nothing will be done.

According to my source they are so well hidden you could be looking at one fairly close and not know it's there.

I have not seen any drunks in Epcot either and are there every weekend, up until closing.
I have noticed with the increase in hot weather more people carrying around the yard of beer mugs. But I have never seen anyone who acted drunk.

At Univ Studios FL I would not surprised to see that. I have seen people with an obvious buzz. But nothing unruly there either. USF sells alcoholic beverages like peanuts and popcorn. I have seen them sell jello shots from walking vendors, in the park and on City Walk.
Even with that I have not witnessed any problems with drunks.

Hmmmm....

I'll have to take better notice this Oct. We've been to the last two F&W's and don't recall seeing any drunkeness.

I've never seen any drunks at EPCOT either including the F&W festival.

Somewhere I have a picture of someone we nicknamed "Harry Hangover" from last year's summer vacation. He was sitting on a chair in front of the Rose & Crown with his head in his hands. No shirt. No shoes. And quite scary looking.

When I hosted a Drink Around The World event this past December, WDW security approached me (as I was the one holding the huge lime green banner with D.A.T.W. written on it) and asked me what I was doing. Twenty minutes later, the same CM came up to me and "warned" me about the consequences if someone in our group were to become too intoxicated. I wasn't sure how I felt about this at the time, but I suppose that it is a necessary evil in order to keep the parks free from drunks.

Next time I'm going to tell security that DATW means "Desserts Around The World".

I've seen the occasional "happy slappy guy" at the German Biergarten, and one woman at Mexico who had had one too many margaritas, but other than that ...

:earsboy:

I've never seen any drunks at Epcot either and frankly the price of the drinks kind of discourages it.

But the thread reminded me of a time I was down there for a sales conference (many years ago). We held two large back-to-back sales conferences at the Dolphin and, as a perk, our VP got 10 tickets into Epcot. He hand-selected a few of us to go into the park to eat at the China restaurant and then we finished the evening at the Rose and Crowne for Illiminations.

Well, we were there on the company dime so the cost of drinks didn't bother us. I think we might have been a bit tipsy but we were all happy ... I just remember doing a lot of giggling!!! We did have someone sitting on the railing who fell backwards into the shrubbery (sp?) though. LOL!!

In recent years, near the American Adventure, I've noticed corporate functions going on and think that these might produce some happy people as well.

For the cameras, I know cast members down at the parks, and I have been on some of the tours. There are very few cameras. They rely on cast members to keep their eyes open to report anything.

I have noticed this problem during the F&W festival too. It is more a "getting" drunk type of thing than a flat out drunk thing. Very loud conversations, an increase in swearing, and rough housing which seems very popular with teh 20 somethings.

Well, I imagine most of the F&W drunks never went to Epcot intending to get drunk, but instead started with a glass of wine in Canada & by the time they got to Mexico they were bleepfaced.

I hate drunks.

Nothing more I can say, really.

What, get drunk and get a free room at Disney?

I should have put "loaded" in quotes.

All I can add is that during last years F & W fest there were those who overindulged so to speak. You wouldn't really take notice unless you happened to encounter a number of them say for instance at the America's Pavillion during the final set of the concert series.

Could be they drank their way halfway around "the world" and parked on a bench for some free entertainment.
