So i was wondering if there were any other drummers on here?

I'm in the process of teaching myself how to play so i kinda suck right now...

But share drum tips and whatnot....

Hey. I drum. Some tips are to just listen to the music and just think about how you would play it on your set. I practice that all the time and it helps out with how to play a lot better. I also only play by ear because notes are just not needed for me.

thanks.
I've been trying the whole playing by ear thing and i can get some stuff but then it will go into like verse changes and the drums get harder...just like for a second...I need to work on speed.

:duck: (just cause i felt like using it)

im a drummer. I taught myself how to play. I've been drumming for 5 years, I'm a quick learner:cool1:

What I did was I learned basic rock beats, and eventually I was able to add in my own patterns and beats and my timing got better and better. It's all about practice. Pretty soon you'll be in a band like me.

I should be a quick learner from my familys musical talent ness but yeah i'm kinda slow... I got one beat so far that i can like do Amazingly and its a metal beat i guess...My brothers band uses it...hahaha

and yeah more practice is proboly what i need...but as of now my only time is either early morning or late night but my family has already agreeded with the old lady next door to be quite before 10 am and after 8 pm... Now that its summer it should be easier...

What kind of sticks do you guys use...

my favorites are vic firth but they are kinda pricy soo i use sound percussions now...eh there not as nice but close enough...

i use 5b's which i was told was insane for how little my hands are...anything else feels weird...

I was a quick learner because I have an "ear" for music I guess. I can play 5 instruments, 4 of them I learned on my own. The type of sticks doesn't really matter to me. When I practice I use cheapies. I have a pair of Vic Firth's I use for shows, except for one battle of the bands where I was in a Disney mood and used the ones I bought at Rock N Roller Coaster.

ahaha I play the timpani (sp?) does that count? =P

ah well having an "ear" for music is awesome...I can play anything if i'm shown once...But i have no one to show me...So i watch youtube videos..hahaha

I can't use cheapies cause well the cheapy ones i havve give me splinters. OW.

I don't get splinters, maybe because my hands are all callused.:thumbsup2

hahahaha maybe i'd rather keep my hands calluse free :]

but grip tape helps with the splintery ones i guess and also prevents my drum sticks from being "accidently" proppelled at my brothers head

depending on the sticks I have some grip tape. I found colored tape on clearance once for like 99 cents, so I have red, yellow, and green tape.

awesome!

I only have white cause its all the store had...and it was like $2 for a 4 pack...

I use the American Flag Drumsticks that you get at like the American Pavillion at EPCOT and/or Rock N Rollercoaster. They are the only sticks that are big enough for my hands to feel comfortable with since my hands are huge. I now make it a tradition that every time I go to Disney I buy a new pair.

I'm also a Disney lover that drums...been drumming for over 2 years now, it's been great. I've used light up sticks that I bought over at RNR at one of my last shows, it was at a indoor venue where it was dark so not only was it looking awesome, it felt great to play them. But it destroys my drum heads, though.

i'm in percussion at school
and i took drumset lessons for a while but then i quit
i never practiced XO

haha
