I'm a big ride chicken. I can't handle drops at all. I've been to wdw many times and always skip these. My kids are trying to talk me into going on them this time. How big are the drops? I can just barely handle pirates (that makes my stomach drop). And I can handle maelstrom. I can see the drop on primeval whirl and won't go on that. I can see that's too big for me.

Drop on Kala is long but not really steep and no going back up like a roller coaster.

Drops on Space are also small but you are going faster and you can't see them to prepare. How are you on BTMR. If you have never ridden it, it really has no real drops at all. Just wide sweeping turns.

I don't think you'll have an issue with Kali, as mentioned earlier it's a long gradual drop.

If the drop of Pirates is at your limit you'll HATE Space Mountain. Lots of drops in the dark. If you don't like drops you won't like Space Mountain.

I'm a big chicken too, and I love Kali (with a poncho). I will never go on Space Mountain again :scared1:

I love rides, love drops, love roller coasters that don't have inversions, and I will never go on Space Mountain again. I guess it was due to being in the dark, but I thought that ride was terrifying. And jerky.

I hate big, straight drops (they make my stomach hurt), and the drops on Space Mountain aren't big enough to bother me. Like BTMRR, most of them seem to go around curves, which minimizes the sensation.

That said, the ride is incredibly jerky. There are times when I feel like my head is going to fly off my neck!

I am also not a fan of drops, but i absolutely LOVE Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. There are two 'dips'...the second one being quite a fun jolt..but nothing overly major to get nervous about.

Space Mountain is similar, but since you cannot see ahead of you in the dark the small dips and drops feel more intense.

Kali River Rapids i find rather harmless as far as the 'drop ratio' goes. There is only one 'drop' per say, and it is mild ( abet, wet ! ).

Happy riding!

Are you talking more about dips or drops? I will ride the most upside down, spinny roller coaster (or mission space orange over and over) but I hate drops. I have never had any desire to go on ToT. If you're talking about ToT type drops, you'll be fine on rides like space mountain.

If you can barely handle the drop in Pirates, Space Mountain will be a nightmare for you. Every time I ride it the drops take me by surprise!

I am a ride chicken as well I love BTMRR as it sounds like you did. Kali is not bad at all you will be fine and it's actually kind of boring and not much exciteement. I went on Space once in my life it doesn't hurt to try it once. I found it jerky and I was a little fearful I was going to fall out the entire time I really didn't care for it I screamed like a maniac the whole time but I would probably be willing to go on again but I really didn't care for it all that much.

I'm a bigger ride chicken!

Kali is no problem and sooo much fun!

Space Mtn does not bother me because it is in the dark. It's more the jerking around that I really do not like.

EE is not an issue either because the drop is not straight down... It banks pretty good so I'm ok with that.

Now Space Mtn... Another story!:scared1::worried:

P.S. RnRR.... Once in my lifetime was enough. Fabulous ride tho.

My 61 yo mother is a huge ride chicken and could not stop laughing on Kali just 2 weeks ago:) BTMMR scared her to death tho in 2008!

The biggest drops on SM are like 10 feet max. They aren't big and there is only like 1 that is that big. The rest are tiny. Far smaller than PotC.

SM is nothing like the coaster I was on this past weekend at Kings Dominion. 305 feet to the top, 194 feet for the first drop.

I honestly think if you can handle BTMRR you can handle SM. Maybe watch one of the night vision rides on You Tube and I think there might be some where folks got to ride it with the lights on. That might help you decide. The darkness makes everything seem worse than it is.

Yep, I think it's the darkness that throws people off. I actually love the ride - but my 10-year old, who is a roller coast junkie, absolutely hates it and swears never to ride it again. I think it's because he can't really SEE where he's going, and it disorients him.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Does anyone know how many feet the biggest drop on space mountain is? I googled it and made sure they were talking about wdw, but got different answers. I've gotten 18, 30, and 35 feet.

Ha, I think space mountain would be scarier with the lights on. As far as the coaster itself is concerned it's pretty gentle on the roller coaster spectrum. But the times I've seen it with the lights on makes me scared to have my hands up, it's certainly one compact course.

I am a ride chicken too. I brace myself for the Pirates drop, can just tolerate Big Thunder Railroad but Kali is a 'walk in the park'.
I got talked into Space Mountain.....NEVER again! :scared:

The three drops on Space Mountain (really four, but one is barely a drop) have no air time. You don't feel butterflies at all. They're just surprising because until you're familiar with the ride, you don't know when they're coming. There's more air time on the drops inside of Splash Mountain or on BTMRR. Mostly, Space is just painful. The biggest drop, which is the final drop, is 18 feet. There is absolutely *no* 35-foot drop on Space, either in Orlando or in Anaheim.
