I am planning our next trip home and have a question about the best way to bring my mom along for part, but not all of our (nuclear) family trip. We love spending several days with Grandma in the world, but would like a few days at the end of our trip to relax by ourselves.

This year we did a split stay, a 2BR for the days that she stayed with us, then a 1BR after she flew home. We liked trying two different resorts, but spent half a day repacking and moving.

I'm wondering if it is possible to reserve a 2BR for the first portion of our trip, then drop the 1BR studio from it for the second portion. This would allow us to have Grandma in the next room while she stays with us, and not have to either move or spend unneccessary points on an empty studio after she leaves.

TIA.

You can certainly request it, but remember it's just a request and you still might have to move.

You would have to reserve a lock off two bedroom villa for the first part of your stay. Make sure that you are blocked into the same one bedroom portion for both parts of the stay.

We did it the opposite a few years ago at OKW when we arrived a few days before our friends arrived. We had the one bedroom portion and when they arrived, we were able to open the door between the two units for a two bedroom lockoff.

Just wanted to ask, were you able to request this and know in advance that you definitely had it - or was it a case of requesting it and then not knowing until it happened that you had gotten lucky??:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

This is somethng that will usually work out, but can not be guaranteed. It depends upon the number and type of reservations that the resort has coming and going on that day. For instance, if there are 5 - 2 bedroom lock-offs at a resort, 3 of those are not leaving that day. Of the remaining 2, one wants to stay in the one bedroom portion and drop the studio, in the other unit, the studio wants to stay, and drop the one bedroom but there is also a two bedroom lock-off reservations arriving that day, someone will have to move.

We did this exact same thing several times as well. OKW is very accommodating that way, but be sure you make it clear both at booking AND at check in.

You would have to be sure your reservation is for a 2 bedroom lockoff for the first part and then 1 bedroom lockoff for the second part. If they book either as a dedicated, you will have to move. Which resort is this?

Thanks for the replies, everyone.

Debbie, our home resort is AKL. I have booked a 2BR Value already. Are those lock-offs?

There will be no way you will definitely know that you will not have to move until you arrive.

Did you book a lock off, if not you would have to rebook. The only two bedrooms that are always going to be lock offs are at BWV as that is all they have.

All the two bedroom villas at Jambo House are lock offs. Values are only at Jambo House.

But at BWV there are many dedicated studios & 1 bedrooms, so that could trip you up. Almost every studio or 1 bedroom I've had at BWV was a dedicated.

Are there dedicated 1 bedrooms?
