Dropping Rental Car at different location than pickup

I haven't rented a car in a long time.
DH and I are thinking of splitting our stay next year between BCV and Vero Beach. We would fly into MCO and take ME to BCV. Then we would like to rent a car from the Swan/Dolphin (which resort is it and which car agency?) to drive to Vero Beach. We would like to drop it back off at MCO not the hotel. Can this be done? Does it cost extra?

Fairly easily done. Just make sure when you make the reservation that you enter the return location as different from rental location.

There is no charge for returning to a different location in Florida.

Alamo/National is at the Swan/Dolphin. Put in your pickup and drop off locations. There will almost certainly be a charge if you don't drop the car off where you said you would. I don't think the no drop off fee policy in Florida is still (officially) in effect.

I think some agencies may black out some codes with a one way rental.

Absolutely. Decide if the driver is going to get up early, get the car and drive back or if your entire group is going to take the DME bus, get the car then drive to Vero.

How long will you be at Vero. A weekly rental may give you the best rate. Not going to be at Vero for a full week? Reserve the car for a week and pick it up during your stay. A member of group group can use DME prior to your checkout date.

I'd be willing to pay a little extra to avoid going to MCO to pick up a car.

We have rented from Alamo and have done a similar trip. We began our trip in Vero so we rented the car from MCO then dropped off the car at the Dolphin 3 days later when we began our stay at BWV. It was very easy and we were not charged any additional fees. Our stay at Vero was over a weekend so we used an online coupon for a discount for the weekend days (we got a day free) and we had no problems using the coupon with the different pickup and dropoff locations. The dropoff location at the Dolphin was at the front of the resort where Valet parking is.

I'm not sure I understand what you all mean by no additional fee to drop off at a different location. That would imply that the rate should be the same regardless of where you picked up or dropped off at any locations in FL.


I just did a comparison for my trip in Nov., 6 days, pick up and drop off at noon, midsize car. All are base rates without using any discount codes.

Pick up and drop off at MCO = $182.55

Pick up at Dolphin and drop off at MCO = $355.00

Pick up at the MCO and drop off at the Dolphin = $1199.94 WOW

Pick up and drop off at the Dolphin = $229.00

Pick up at MCO drop off Miami airport = $359.94

Try it yourself and see what happens for your dates and times.

So are you saying that the rate should be $182.55 regardless of which option I choose. If that is what you are saying why do they show different rates, is it just to trap people that don't know any better?

I know very few of us would rent without using some sort of codes, and using codes changes all of the above base numbers drastically, without any apparent rhyme or reason, particularly the one that is $1199.94 with the codes I used it goes to a base rate of $144.99.
