We are staying at WDW before our cruise in May so we will be driving our rental car to the port. We are thinking of having my husband drop the kids and I off at the port with our luggage while he takes our car to Budget? Will this work? Will I be able to check in all of our luggage so I don't have to haul it around? Thanks for your help!

Yes, this will work. I do it every time! You can go in and get checked-in and get the boarding number. Plus, once he drops you off the porter will take your checked baggage saving you from having to haul it on and off the rental car bus.

Just make sure your husband has a picture ID to get into the port.

We do this everytime as well. I even take DH and kids passports with me in case I need them at the check in desk. DH drops me off at the port and I wait in line to enter the terminal while he takes kiddos with him to return the car to Budget. They take the shuttle back to the port. Meanwhile, I have gotten us checked in, gotten our boarding number, registered the kids for the kids club and we are all set to go. When DH and kiddos return they enter the terminal, find me and we go to guest services to have their photo added to their room keys. Easy peasy, rice and cheesy!:goodvibes

This is what we are planning to do as well. I just have one question, doesn't everyone have to be there with ID to check in? Are you saying he drops you off and you can check yourself, the kids, and him in without him being there and have all the luggage taken by the porter?

If that's the case, that will be awesome. I have the same plan to drop everyone off at the terminal around 9:45 with the luggage. I will then take the car back to Budget and catch the shuttle back to the port. Is that all there is to it?

Thanks for all your help with these questions!!!

Although it's been two years since we boarded a Disney Cruise, unless something has changed, it really is that easy. I was also shocked that my DW was able to check me in without me actually being there.

You pull up at the terminal (or the drop off spot). It is always well marked, but has moved a couple times during the construction. The porters are right there and will help you get the luggage out of the car, etc. Passengers can then go thru security and into the check in line, getting boarding card (1 card per cabin/group) at the start of the line.

If you have the appropriate ID for all, they will allow check in of the entire party even with the driver not back yet. If there is not appropriate ID for all, the CM will hold the KTTW card for the missing driver (it is all printed and ready, just won't hand it out). When driver gets back, security photos and you're done. Since they are now doing the security photo at the desk at the time of check in, I don't know whether they will delay this till the whole family is together or do the people who are there. When it was a separate line, they asked that the whole family be together for the photos.

It is easier in reality than it sounds when written out!

Just make sure the person who is returning the vehicle has their Driver's License with them. They have to have a photo ID to enter the terminal. As long as you have the passport for that person you can check them in at the desk.

I prefer "lemon squeezy" myself ;)
That works too!!

This is what we do every time - very easy and alot less hassle than shuffling the luggage out out the rental and into the shuttle.

Thanks for all the pointers!!!! It's nice to have a plan before we get there!! Gotta love these boards!!! :)

Enterprise is on the opposite end of town from the port at least it was when we used them 5 years ago. The also didn't have a shuttle back then, they may have moved since then. We always do the drop off and then turn in on our cruises. Just makes it easier not to have to load the luggage the extra time on the bus.

yeah, I don't really understand how that works.
Maybe it's because DH had his passport, because I thought he'd need it to get in. I'm not sure.
All I remember is that he dropped us off and although he wasn't going to drop off a rental car- he was parking our vehicle there. I was checking in and wasn't able to complete the checkin because I didn't have his passport. No wait- i think that was our first cruise when we didn't have passports and only had id/birth certificates and I had his bc but not his license. I think that's what it was.

Anyway so really you can't check in your spouse if they drop you off and need their id to get back in...

You CAN check in your spouse. I do it every time. You just have to have a photo ID (license/passport) to do so. They ALSO have to have a photo ID to get into the terminal. SO, the easiest thing is for you to check them in with the passport and they keep their license to get into the terminal.
***If you live in a state that does not have a photo on your license this will not work.

Yeah, I think that was before we even had passports and therefore he only had ID and that's why he had it, and I didn't. LOL
