were are driving from mich in sept to the port but they put transfer charge on or res. cost can we delete this? and save money?

Yes, call DCL soon to remove the transfers from your reservation.

We drove from the DFW area and prefer it. It is a long trip, but I fly alot and I can't imagine putting the family through the hassle of the 'security' of most airports.

Other driving advantages:

No cab / shuttle from home to airport
No airport check in line or sky cab tips on 8 bags
No MCO porter tips
No transfer / limo charges
Car at Hotel for last minute items, and trip to port.
No cab / hotel shuttle
No hotel porter / shuttle tips

None of this all again for the trip home

With driving you have meals, gas, some tips and the parking fee.

It was a long drive but for us it saved $1200 dollars in airfare.
That's a deposit for the next cruise

we're driving all the way from Nebraska

Since we are a family of 5 with only mid-sized cars, we are renting a van for the trip to Florida. It will cost us a bit, but 3 kids not crammed next to each other and fighting for hours on end.......priceless!

Of course, I'm not so stupid as to think there won't be some fighting! :p Just hope it's the kids and not me and DH.

We have also driven for 3 of our 4 times. We will be driving down again in January for number 5. It works out for us a little cheaper to drive than fly and either do transfers or rent a car.

We have driven from Ohio to our Disney trips since 9-11. The first time we drove it was shortly after 9-11 and we thought we'd try it. Ended up, we loved it. Well, not LOVED, but it wasn't complete torture!
We end up saving well over $800 on airfare. We save over $300 on renting a car and save about $150 by not having to park our van at our home airport.
We spend $ on a few tanks of gas, a few meals, and a hotel room two nights (one on the way down, the other on the way home)
We also spend a little money to get the kids a couple of new toys or games for the trip. But for the most part they have "Disney drive toys" that they ONLY see on the trips to Disney--that keeps them interested in them! We also offer dd (a good reader) dimes for every book she reads to ds (an early reader). This gives her extra Disney spending money! :) Plus we have the DVD player in the van, but they only watch a movie or two each way.
It does add a day on each end of the trip, but we have found it's a fairly easy trip if we leave around 5:00 am. We usually make it to within an hour of Disney by 9pm.
HTH.
