Driving

I am not quite sure where a post like this would go.... so please move it to the appropriate place if needed

My question is has anyone ever drove from Texas to WDW? If so how was the drive? We are planning to go in October of this year, and my DH wants to drive this time.

Its 1000 miles and 15 hours, which we plan to do in 2 days. Has anyone ever driven farther to get to WDW?

It's a pretty straight, fairly boring drive. You can deviate to New Orleans for beignets and cafe au lait.

We've driven the stretch of I-10 from San Antonio to Florida many times. We are about 1250 miles from WDW. We also take two days to drive.

It is a straight stretch of road and a fairly easy drive. If you are not a member of AAA you might consider joining just for their Trip Tiks. The Trip Tiks is a map of your route, but they will mark where major construction zones are. This has been really helpful when trying to avoid hitting major construction areas in big cities during rush hour.

Another kink in our drive has been caused by wrecks on those long bridges that cross the swamps. There are sometimes no exits for 20-30 miles.

Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida all have wonderful Welcome Centers as you cross the state line. They are clean and safe and a good place to stop. There is another one in Louisiana called the Atchafalaya Visitors Center that is a really nice place to stretch and learn something.

We will usually drive until we are tired and then just stop where ever we find a vacancy, but this time, we plan to stop in New Orleans for the night. Good eatin'!
