i think it depends. i know that in some places, if you get pulled over and get a ticket and don't have your license with you, you have x number of days to prove you do indeed have a license to get the "driving without a license" charge dropped.

I think they might give you 24 hrs to produce it!!

But it might depend on the cop.
Just fake surprise and act aggravated that you left it at home!!

I was stopped a few years ago here in PA and did not have my license with me. The State Policeman gave me 5 days to bring it to their station and I just had to show it to the person at the front desk.

My DS lost his wallet on Friday, and is driving around WITHOUT his license! Of course, he thinks he isn't going to be pulled over for something, but.......

Totally depends on the state -- all give you some leniency to produce it. I think in VA it's 48 hours. Other places longer, other places shorter. You probably WILL get a ticket for it, but once you show up with the license, they'll rip up the ticket.

A friend had an accident a couple weeks back without her license. The police officer told her she really needed to have it with her. The other party involved was at fault and was tickets. I thought my friend was very lucky that she didn't get a ticket.

Here in Florida, if they want to REALLY be buttheads, they can arrest you for not having it on you.

If you are from out of state and do not have your drivers license on you, you can be arrested in some states. Example: NH resident stopped in Massachusetts.

My brother was once pulled over and, without his license. The officer CAN run a check to see if your license is revoked or suspended so, I imagine if you back that up with the reason why you don't have it on you, they'd be understanding.
